Cold wave expected with temperature drop to 8 degrees celsius

BANGKOK, 29 January 2018 (NNT) – Current weather conditions are expected to lower the temperature in many parts of Thailand by 4-8 degrees celsius during 29-31 January 2018.

Metrological Department (TMD) Director-General Wanchai Sakudomchai revealed a new round of high pressure is moving from China to prevail over the upper part of Thailand and the South China Sea, causing changes of the weather starting with thunderstorms in the northeastern region during 29-30 January 2018, to be followed by 6-8 degrees celsius drop of the temperature with strong winds.

Such weather conditions will affect the central and eastern regions, bringing in a cool weather until 4 February 2018, after which the climate will get warmer.

The Greater Bangkok area will see storms and heavy rains during 30-31 January 2018, which will be followed by 4-6 degrees celsius drop in the temperature during 2-3 February 2018. Cold wave is expected in the northern region on 30-31 January 2018, during which the temperature may drop by 6-8 degree celsius.

Meanwhile, the southern region will be influenced from a stronger northeastern monsoon wind prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand, causing the winds and waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman sea to become stronger with sea waves expected to reach 2-3 meters tall. Sailers are advised to navigate with caution, while small boats should not sail out in the Gulf of Thailand.

Cold snap grips upper Thailand, stormy weather reaches South

BANGKOK, 1st February 2018 (NNT) - Northern and northeastern provinces will continue to experience chilly weather as a cold air mass from China brings rainfall to the upper part of the country.

In the northeastern province of Bueng Kan, the weather remains cold and erratic in all eight districts. Strong winds from Laos have lowered the temperature, prompting border schools to instruct students to wear warm clothing at all times and engage in morning exercise.

The Meteorological Department reports that the lower Northeast, East and the central plains will see rainfalls, which will cause the temperatures to fall by 2-4 degrees celsius. The temperatures in the North will drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius from 2nd to 6th February.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon that is shrouding the South has strengthened and will bring isolated thunder showers, causing winds in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to gather strength between 1st and 6th February and produce waves to 2-3 meters.

Seafront residents and fishermen are advised to take precautions against storm-related risks.

It was 12 this morning by my outdoor thermometer.

Quite a difference in the night and day temps. The bubbles in my Galileo thermometer are really active.

I remember my first days in Thailand when I was asking in many department stores in Bkk, however in vain. And the people in shop were always surprised what is such a thing for? Aren't you happy with our 100 kinds of shampoons and creams (all whitening)?

Nothing has changed over 30 years in shops - and among Thai people either... Even if they have it on their house hanged (by a falang) they will never look at.

That's my "observation among kept circles". I assume that we do not question the circles of us falangs, do we?

Yep.
Everyone [Thais] that I know has a thermometer around their house/property of some sort - be it mercury based, metal spring sensitive, digital, whatever.
Aside from most modern hand devices that have current temps apps available.

Not that Thais are terribly anally precise about invented numerical temperatures and what not [that's a Farang thing] - they know when it's uncomfortably cool and hot.
