Measures to aid victims of call-center gangs

BANGKOK, 23rd December 2017 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police Headquarters has seized more than 1.7 million baht and returned it to the victims of call-center gangs.

Pol.Gen. Thanitsak Teerasawat, the special advisor of the Royal Thai Police Headquarters has spoken of the measures being taken to alleviate the suffering of members of the population who fall victim to call-center gangs.

He said that most recently the police seized more than 1.7 million baht to return to four victims and overall they had been able to seize more than 120 million baht to return to victims in the past seven months.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Surachet Hakpan, Deputy Commander of Tourist Police Division, advised the public that after realizing that one has fallen victim to a call center gang, the victim must report the crime to the police promptly.

However, even if the report comes in too late and the gang has already transferred the money out of the account, the police will nevertheless coordinate with the financial institution and the Anti-Money Laundering Office to assist the victim. A detailed examination must take place however, before the money can be obtained and returned to the victim.

Anyone who has fallen victim to a scheme promoted by a call-center gang can dial the 1155 hotline and call the Anti-Money Laundering Office on the 1710 hotline.
