Military, police officers accused of using excessive force in land eviction
Villagers from two tambons in Ban Pong district of Ratchaburi province on Friday (Sept 29) filed a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), accusing military and police officers of using force excessively to evict them from land under a dispute.
The villagers from Tambon Don Krabuang and Tambon Nong Or were led by Thanakhom Thaweekraikul, chairman of Don Krabuang tambon administration organisation (TAO).
Mr Thanakhom said the villagers had occupied the land in dipute which covers about 400 rai. An investor, who acquired the land ownership, filed a lawsuit with the court to evict them. The court ordered the villagers of more than 100 households to move out of the land.
The villagers defied the court order, saying that the investor had acquired the land illegally. In 2015, they filed a petition with the Administrative Court. The petition is still being considered by the court.
While waiting for the court’s ruling, the investor brought a number of police and military officers, who used excessive force to evict them from the land, Mr Thanakhom said.
