This reminds me of when I used to play right wing. Any time there was a restart, it was normal for the 1st 5 (or whoever was a kicker) to kick the ball towards the opposing forwards, the idea being our forwards would rush up and create a maul, with the backs fanning out.
One day I said to the captain, why don't you NOT kick towards where they have all their men concentrated, and kick it the other side for me?
Captain agreed, and next restart, the ball was kicked out to the right where even their left wing was closer to the their right than to my right side. I rushed up, caught the ball on the full, and scored, leaving the other team confused.
We did that for the next two seasons, scoring time after time. Often I would get the bounce and score, but whenever I got it on the full, it was beautiful.
One team even accused us of cheating by doing that!
