Weekend trip to Pelabahun Ratu

Pelabahun Ratu is on the southwestern edge of Java island, about 4 hours drive from Jakarta. I usually prefer to stay at Ocean queen resort - which is family friendly.

We hired a 4 room beach bungalow with seaviews, bbq and a beach hut.

the staff are assigned to each bungalow and go shopping to the local fish market for you (pics to follow later) and then bbq the food for you at whateva time u ask them too....

yep that lobster there cost about 200 baht or $7 ... not too bad, my gal friend was appalled when i suggested fresh lobster in aussie land cost about $35 per kilo !

funnily enough when we got to the fish market they had touts there also - they basically were all carrying a small tray with squid on them and surrounded me galfriend and pestered her with how cheap, good and fresh the squid was.......

oh and did i mention u could visit various places;

• tea plantations
• bat cave
• turtle sanctuary
• edible bird nest building sites, each of which can cost about $2000 per kilo
• local fishing boat trips
• coastal hikes and walks
• national park complete with (allegedly) gibbons

The big red one on the right is a Spotted Grouper. Very good eating. the others are probably shit. Most reef fish are.

oh and i forgot to mention....

when it came time to pay the bill, the staff asked had a paid a deposit (yes i had) and how much (i couldnt quite remember) so I asked them how much I'd paid dont they have records???

apparently not!

not exactly the way to run the business i would have thought!

i'm too honest for me own good, cos i told them the amount and then when i asked to pay via credit card, they said I could just pay the room rate direct to the farang manager/owner (he was away) bank account later this week and could i just pay the food bill in cash then and there....
