Elderly persons return to work via DOE employment campaign

BANGKOK, 6 December 2916 (NNT) – Ninety-three out of a total of 1,071 elderly persons who registered with the Department of Employment (DOE) has returned to work in a four-months time.

Deputy DOE Director General Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul said an employment campaign among the elderly during 10 August - 30 November 2016 has made progress as 1,071 had registered their interests in being employed for work.

Most of the applicants were female while the five most popular jobs were those of a driver, clerk, administrative employee, cleaner, security guard and housemaid.

The campaign has since provided the employment to 93 enrolled persons, most of whom living in the Greater Bangkok metropolitan area, followed by the northern region. Most of the elderly were hired in the manufacturing sector, as guidance officials, office workers, maids and clerks.

The campaign which has been responded by 484 employers was aimed to improve the livelihood of the Thai elderly, the number of whom is expected to account for more than 25 percent of the country's population in the next 15 years.
