Two Chinese tourists killed and more than 20 injured in speedboats collision

Two Chinese tourists were killed and more than 20 others were injured in a fatal collision involving two speed boats in the Andaman Sea off Phang-nga province.

Phuket governor Chamroen Tippayapongthada said that there were altogether 62 passengers on the two speed boats, most of them Chinese and South Korean tourists.

The two speed boats, Chor Hongfa 20 and Cholakit 856, left Phuket with altogether 62 passengers for a sight-seeing trip which included Phang-nga bay and Phi-Phi islands.

The two vessels however collided near Musung rock outcrops, a popular diving spot, southward of Yaoyai island of Koh Yai district, Phang-nga.

The governor said Chor Hongfa 20 sustained minor damage and only some of its passengers sustained minor injuries. However, the other speed boat sustained more damages and eventually sank.

The two dead victims were among passengers of Cholakit 856 who were mostly injured from the collision. 18 are being hospitalized in Phuket.

Governor Chamroen assured that no passengers went missing because the provincial administration has imposed a strict safety measure requiring all boat passengers to wear life vests.

unreal....again.

i am more shocked if a day passes when no tourists are killed/injured/maimed/robbed/brutally attacked in pattaya/samui/ phuket/hua hin/bangkok.

the country is an unregulated, ungovernable, unruly and uncivilised backwater with a largely uneducated population given tasks way beyong their limited abilities.

and still the grasping greedy grubby authorities rub their sweaty hands in gleeful anticipation of the millions of " quality " tourists they try to lure here.

Nice to wake up each morning and know that all's ok, eh tax.

But tomorrow, who knows.

Thailand’s disgrace – lengthening list of tourist tragedies

Boat, tour bus crashes and other accidents involving tourists have become common in Thailand.

On Sunday, a speedboat near the resort island of Koh Samet rammed into an anchored boat, injuring 30 people on board, according to Thai news reports.

In late May, another speedboat carrying 32 tourists capsized in rough waters off Koh Samui, leaving three tourists dead. The victims were from Britain, Germany and Hong Kong.

In February, two Russian tourists were badly injured while scuba diving off Phi Phi island in Krabi province, when a speedboat's propeller severed one of the men's legs and cut deep gashes into the other man's leg.

A 52-year-old French woman died after being struck by a boat while swimming in waters reserved for snorkelers near an island off Krabi province.--AP

Moral of the story,don't swim,ride in boat's/cars/buses/motorcycles or walk while in thailand,i think i will just stay home.

Captains' Negligence Leads to Deaths of Chinese Tourists: Thai Police

Police in Thailand on Friday said that negligence on the part of two captains had led to a speedboat collision on Wednesday, which left two Chinese tourists dead and more than 30 others injured.

Police said that they would file a lawsuit against the two Thai captains.

Lieutenant Colonel Prasert Srikhunrat, deputy of Phuket's marine police, said there was light rain when the accident occurred but added he didn't believe the weather was entirely to blame.

Two speedboats packed with 62 tourists in total crashed off the coast of southern Thailand on Wednesday. The collision involved a boat carrying 36 passengers and another with 26 travelling near the popular resort island of Phuket.

The two dead have been identified as tourists from China's Hubei Province.

One of the injured has been released from the hospital, and the rest are in stable condition.

Chinese insurance companies have already started the process to pay claims.
