Thai police and speed guns
Well it seems that the police here have now got speed guns and will all become rich :(
Yesterday I was toodling along at about 150km when the traffic started bunching up, seems the locals are used to this speed trap and the passerbys are the ones that get caught, so I'm down to about 100km and the outside lane clears up as everything has moved into the left lane, I started accelerating and see the nice man with what I thought was a tv camera, got to to admit I didn't know those speed guns were so damn big, he had the bloody thing on a tripod, couple of hundred meters down the road they were there awaiting, one of the idiots is standing in the fast lane waving at me, got to admit I did think about just driving on, but I pulled up on the hard shoulder and pc somchai comes over and asks me how fast did I think I was going, being one thats not willing to incriminate myself I took a wild guess of about 80km, he didn't smile at that one, thats when I realised it weren't a tv camera :( so then he starts going on about I have to stay in the left hand lane, I explained that that was impossible as I was overtaking at the time, seems they got me at 116km so that aint too bad, he then asked if I had a driving license, obviously I said yes, there was an awkward silence for a while, he was assuming that I did have a driveing license and was waiting for me to produce it, unfortuneately I dont have one of them so I let the silence continue, hmmm, then he asked to see it :( So I told him it was at home, now he decides he is going to give me a ticket for speeding and driving in the fast lane, 1,000baht fine, so I gave him a lecture on safe overtaking but he really didn't seem that interested, but he did tell me he could give me a discount, so the bargaining began, I started with an initial offer of 100baht, he wern't gonna go for this and 500baht was his minimum, time to admit to being a serial speeding offendor I decided, so I told him that 10 minutes previously I had been stopped and already paid the police, why should I pay the police 2 times in one day, obviously I hadn't but he didn't know that :)
He took pity on me and asked if 200baht would be alright, I was going to stick to my guns of a 100baht fine, but, I just couldn't be bothered, the moral of the story? just lie to the gits :)
