thai workmanship

i got my lights fixed on my bike yesterday at the local garage
while i was at work the shop kindly delivered it back to my workplace i was busy so one of the girls on reception took the keys back
when i was free i ran up yo the shop and paid the 150 bht it cost
with out checking my bike over

i got home last night an noticed there is now a large crack in the windsheild where they have done a screw up to tight

went back there today to complain and what was the response oh it was there when you brought it here
( no it fvcking wasnt )
then he said i did not touch that part
( he had to move it to get to the lights )

then he and his mates just sat there and stared at me and my friend as if to say what

any other stories about being screwed over by thai workmanship
let me know just to make me feel better

They are notorious for not taking responsibilty for their mistakes.
But no, haven't been screwed that way, though it took me several months and a lot of energy on a couple of occasions to have a few repair jobs (sound system, TV) sorted in an acceptable fashion.
Acceptable meaning I didn't lose too much money and the appliances where working almost as good as before, minus some cosmetic scratches and rims of beerbottles and thinner as added decor.

It's a bit mixed in my experience, with regard to working on my car, if the garage owner recognises that you live locally they'll try to fix any problems they may have caused. Hopes of repeat business.

The worst troubles I've had with repairs have been where we've had minor problems miles from home. Somehow these always turned into major hassles which then had to fixed when we got home.

Had good and bad. Nice guy fixed a flat tire for Bt70, no probs. Window screen man replaced mine for cheap. Young hippie silver man ruined a ring stone when fixing a break in the silver. All in all, about the same rate of satisfaction as in Canada, but here you pay ten times more for a shite job.

The signal on my phone keeps dropping, I paid 300 baht to have it fixed but the problem returned after an hour.

I took the phone back to the shop and he re-fixed it.

Next day signal dropped again.

I took phone back and left it with him for 3 hours to ensure the job was well done, I returned after 4 hours and it was in bits in front of him as he watched some silly game show.

He saw me and got to work and it was fixed within 20 mins.

That was yesterday, the phone is ok so far.

hehe. Laptop broke down, took the canucks two weeks to fix it and they forgot a bunch of stuff, like my f* D drive. (I know, I complained already.) This is supposed to be the smart Western world, right?
I always loved the Thai electricians best and their outdoor wiring that is only for indoors. Nice fireworks when it rained.

Yeah, got a lot more such stories from the so-called "civilised" UK than from Thailand, cost me an arm and a leg each time as well.

Builder put my mixer tap in upside down (try that, not easy), insisted it was ok when I brought it to his attention, got sulky when I asked him for cold and hot water came out, thought a moment and said no plobrem when I want hot push it to cold and when I want cold...

I bought a 400 cc chopper in Khon Kaen from a shop called Anan's (yeah lets name and shame the prick)
The bike had been in a small accident before at some stage (they all have i reckon) the paint on the gas tank tarted to bubble in a small area after a couple of days. Upon closer investigation that area of the tank had been repainted very recently and the small hole that was there had been filled in with regular car body filler. Took the bike back to the shop and challenged him......fcuking dumb ass smile. Cost me 2000 baht to get it welded and fixed properly under my supervision.

Same bike 3 months later, some plonker cuts in front of me turning right as i head through a traffic light intersection on green light. I clip the back end of the other bike as it flashes across the front of me. Now the handlebars come clean off the top mounts and are free in my hands, the only thing holding them to the rest of the bike is the clutch and throttle cable.
Somehow i travel another 30-40 metres on two wheels before coasting to a halt and dumping the bike and jumping off.
When I bought the bike I asked this Anan character to change the handle bars from the standard "factory" fitment to some wider ones.
He did not use the correct lenght bolts to secure the mounts to the frame, they were too short and only held about 3 "threads" during the impact they stripped the soft aluminium top mount and the whole thing separated.
Anyway, as the accident happened not far from his shop i took the bike there and dumped it with him while i went off to hospital.
When I went to collect the bike he had fixed the problem with the handlebars and this time used the correct lenght bolts.
Now the thing is I found one of the short bolts at the accident site and put it in my pocket, later when I visited the shop he denied that the bolt I had got was one that he had put in!

Anan Big Bike, Khon Kaen, this is for you pal :finger:

I suggest that anyone who buys a big bike in Thailand is very carefull of this kind of thing. Most big bikes come here from Japan and are partially knocked down for shipment. This means at this end you have some lackey who knows fcuk all about the correct torques that these major componants need to be tightened to. They also will be confused about which bolts went where meaning something can go very wrong, possibly at high speeds.

Got the engine for my Honda VFR 400cc completely rebuilt for about 10k bt.- and it was great for 2 months. It started making a squeaking sound and a knocking sound I told him and he said he would fix it. 3 and a half months later my bike is still just sitting in front of his shop half torn apart but hasnt touched it since the first couple days it was there, since then just been sitting exposed to the rain and elements with panels and parts taken off.

Fvxing asshole wish he would just say "i am not fixing it so go fux yourself"

That way I could just get it out of there and begin plotting my revenge.

I had a scratch down the right hand side of my car.
I took it in to be repaired and 18 months later it was ready.

The car behind it is a Ford SUV, I recently started to see them in thailand but in the background it look like there is a big Buick or Cadillac cruising down the road and that you dont see in thailand.

And look at the steering wheel.
