Just for entertainment: What did your parents teach you?


My dad was the greatest (ex called up WW2 British army signals, gunner and driver) ..Taught me lots of DIY, vehicle maintenance, vegetable /flower gardening etc…. Dad taught me how to make a good fire, a good cuppa tea and a great stew from most anything…Taught me domestic wiring and basic electrics theory, Morse code and how to mix concrete by the time I was 14yo. Also taught me Guinness is good for you.
Mum taught me basic cooking skills (a la 50s Brit standards), sewing, knitting, sock darning.
My folks also taught me that Jews and Blacks/Wogs/all foreigners (especially French and Russians) were to be avoided….lol

According to Spike Milligan's books which use excerpts from my dad's war diaries ( they were in the same gun battery and band) My dad was the epitome of sobriety and morality in Italy, North Africa and Belgium...me? not so sure..555 Mum still does NOT like Italian women!!!..lol

My mum always said to wear clean underwear in case i got in an accident.

My father taught me to always respect older people. He also taught me to have people to work with you, not for you.

I don't actually recall my parents sitting me down (or standing up) and teaching me anything specific. Most of what they passed onto me was gleaned by osmosis or by example. Fixing bikes/cars, DIY etc was gleaned from watching.

Ah I remember now. When hitting a golf ball with a driver, use your torso not just your arms.

Don't squirt water pistols into the power sockets , even though it makes a cool popping , crackling sound.

My dad did try to teach me about fishing, for a while, but naah thank you.

My dad taught me to look for the good in people before the bad, that nobody is perfect and we all have our faults, "even you son". I know I couldn't believe it either!

My Dad taught me shit,

He was to busy earning money as to keep me in the good life and mowed our big lawn on the weekend.

My old man was always the Boss in his Job, he worked long hours but bought home the bacon, my mum also worked full time.

What I did learn from the Old man was how to manage money, he never borrowed money ever except for the family house. All other stuff was bought with Cash my Mum and Dad saved up.

I never hit it off with my old man but I give it up to him for teaching me the importance of Money even though he never knew he did.
