83 Year Old Mother Kills Drunk Son in Self-Defense

An 83-year-old woman who believed her drunken son was attacking her with a knife, grabbed a nearby kitchen knife and stabbed him fatally in the chest at their house in Kanchanaburi’s Lao Kwan district, police said.

Police called to the scene found Kul Namchan, 53, lying dead in a pool of blood with a stab wound to his right chest on the first floor of his two-storey house in tambon Thung Krabam. He wore only black shorts.

Pol Lt Col Rakchart Prasoppol, a duty officer at Lao Kwan police station, received a report of the incident around 8am on Wednesday.

The dead man's mother, Min Namchan, 83, was waiting for police at the house, he said.

She told police that while she was trying to sleep her drunk son had blundered around the house.

She said Kul was holding a knife and staggered towards her, menacingly. She believed he was attacking her and immediately grabbed a nearby kitchen knife, about 12 inches long, and stabbed him in self defense. He fell to the ground and died shortly later.

Police took the elderly woman to the police station for further questioning.

Wonder what went on before this happened. Many old folk live out their lives subjected to significant physical abuse from children and carers. Wonder how many times previously the son had taken out his drunken rages on her? Enough times that when she saw him coming at her with a knife to pick up her own to defend herself I think.

Sad to think about it, there had to be a history here.

not saying that this is the case for this old lady , but many times watching the spoit little emporors and empresses' , I do believe that later in life the parents will find it comes back and bites them

Add to that, it seems many Thai adults think they have an entitlement or co-ownership of their parent's property, and that they have a right to live there.
