Where's the scam in this ?

Right, trying to sell something online...

Anyway we have a couple of email exchanges and he wants to buy.

So now he wants to send money via Paypal, which I have but he states he's an oceanographer, so we cant chat on the phone due to 'lack of reception on the sea area' but he wants to buy the goods without seeing them and will send someone else to collect.

So what he wants, after sending me a link to Paypal site, is my name, email addy and full name.

Surely he couldnt hack my account with that little info?

Or is it a phishing link ?

or am I too cynical ?

Just give him nothing more than he needs to pay you via paypal. Does he need all three of those things or can he do it with less?

If he does need all three then you'll have to make a judgement call whether you trust him or not, but I don't think he could hack you with those things alone.

Standard Paypal scam.
He will reneg on the payment and you will be stiffed.
Tell him to make a bank transfer and he will offer a never ending list of excuses as to why he cant.

I could ask him BB.:)

I agree with Necron. Happens in Oz all the time. They're overseas, don't ask much about the goods, and use Paypal.

Probably the thin end of the wedge for a few more details.

Standard ploy for someone buying second-hand sex aids.

He makes some useless excuse about not being contactable and says he will send someone round to collect the goods, (that someone will actually be him, but he will strongly deny this - buying used rubber gonk equipment can be a touch embarrassing).

My advice - donate your sordid items to the local dogs' home - they make great dog chews....

Right, now that you've stopped laughing and picked yourself up from the floor tell him to sling his hook.

With even that skimpy info and a little creativity and luck he could find out a lot about you; one reason PayPal is popular is that it does away with the need to share info like that.

I was trying to sell CVG's car last Christmas and I had scammers trying the same deal. They work overseas and want you to give them your paypal account details so they can pay the asking price without viewing the car.

Don't reply to anymore emails. I googled the guys name and email and he was listed on a scammer warning site. You would think they would at least bother to change their fake name between scams.
