Russia dismantles Steve Jobs memorial as 'gay propaganda' after Apple CEO comes out.

Moscow: A memorial to Apple founder Steve Jobs has been dismantled in the Russian city of St Petersburg after the man who succeeded him at the helm of the company, Tim Cook, came out as gay.
The two-metre-high monument, in the shape of an iPhone, was erected outside a St Petersburg college in January 2013 by a Russian group of companies called ZEFS.
Citing the need to abide by a law combating "gay propaganda", ZEFS said in a statement on Monday that the memorial had been removed on Friday - the day after Mr Cook, Apple's chief executive, announced he is homosexual.

"In Russia, gay propaganda and other sexual perversions among minors are prohibited by law," ZEFS said, noting the memorial had been "in an area of direct access for young students and scholars".
"After Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly called for sodomy, the monument was taken down to abide to the Russian federal law protecting children from information promoting denial of traditional family values."
Promoting "traditional values", President Vladimir Putin last year signed a law prohibiting the spread of "gay propaganda" among minors.

Mr Putin says there is no discrimination against gay people in Russia and the law was needed only to protect young people, although members of the gay community say its passage has increased problems for them.
ZEFS - or West European Financial Union - groups companies offering a range of products and services in areas such as real estate, construction, advertising and microfinancing.
Mr Cook said he had decided to come out to help move forward civil rights, confirming a fact that had been widely known in the Silicon Valley tech community but was rarely discussed.

Vitaly Milonov, a St Petersburg legislator who has campaigned against gay rights and was among legislators behind the law signed by Mr Putin, has called for Mr Cook to be barred entrance to Russia, Russian media have reported.

Maxim Dolgopolov, the head of ZEFS who ordered the removal of the monument, expressed opposition to personal sanctions in Monday's statement, but supported the "protection of traditional values" by law.
"Sin should not become the norm. There is nothing to do in Russia for whose who intend to violate our laws," he said.

Homosexuals are the only sexual proclivity to proclaim pride in their inclination.

It is not a source of pride. It is a simple biological fact about themselves not a personal achievement.

Stating in an interview, discussion or media article that you have no shame about your homosexuality is fair enough but even that more moderate position is not a reasonable cause for holding a street demonstration due to the private nature of the sexual act. I think anyone marching in the street to proclaim 'gay pride' should be arrested on public obscenity laws.

Yes I saw a Gay Pride march in Adelaide a few years back. The problem is not about being delayed getting to work. The problem is about the offence caused to the general public by holding a demonstration to proclaim your pride in your sexual orientation. Many homosexuals think it is normal to hold such public demonstrations. I do not want to see anybody on the street, homos, bestialists, heteros, necrophiliacs, onanists or paedophiles holding a public demonstration about their sexual orientation.

If Tim Cook had lived in Russia then he would now not be leading a skin-crawlingly filthy homo lifestyle, would not be raked with self disgust and suicidal thoughts .

Sexuality is a uniquely emotive and adult topic for good evolutionary reasons. Human societies everywhere treat sex as a taboo subject to some degree and to be handled with care. Sexual activity of all persuasions is kept private 99% of the time. We can enjoy pornography these days due to video recording technology but it is generally treated as something to be kept secret and not discussed in polite company. Sexuality is not a suitable subject for street demonstrations.

I strongly disagree. Sex sells, look at advertising for one, TV shows, fashion, country specific where its a booming tourism industry, its not a taboo subject by any means. Same sex marriages legalized in some places.

Yes of course the powerful nature of the sexual instinct means that allusions to sexuality creep into aspects of our everyday lives TV, movies, advertising etc. the fact that sex is taboo, titillating and risque is what makes these strategies succeed.

Whenever sex is addressed directly rather than obliquely the subject matter will get a censorship rating and its audience will be restricted to 18+ or whatever. I think sex is an adult subject and censorship is appropriate. Street demonstrations where people proclaim pride in their sexual activities are offensive, cringe-worthy and embarrassing and have no place in a society with any sense of sexual modesty which all human societies have always had.
