Why hasn't the word 'cool' become redundant?

Many words have become redundant, had the meaning changed ( Yes, like gay for instance :doglol: ) ; or are no longer in use. Like 'fab' and that..

But why is cool still commonly used by toady's urchins? ... sorry, auto spell check can be a prick ..... today's - not toady's .... toady is a coonte and if anyone ever mentions his name around here again i will jump through yer commuter screen and rip yer bladdy arms orff!

Toady on the other hand can wait for another day. I'll never forgive him for killing my pet tadpoals..

My recollection is that it was in regular usage when I was a kid 30-40 years ago and then fell into disuse for many years and nobody used it. Then I heard somebody using it in the office in 1997 and then it suddenly seemed like everybody was using it again but its resurgence was originally ironic in that it was an old fashioned word and to use it was kind of a joke but it has since fallen back into main stream use and is no longer ironic.
