As far as I'm aware they're all pretty obsessed with marriage, much more than westerners.
I'm not sure if this is just Thai society and would be the same with a Thai-Thai couple, or it's just Thai securing that piece of the western wealth pie.
Could you have a long term relationship with a Thai woman, move in with her, have a nice relationship but always have that get out of jail card in your back pocket?
I have been with TGF for 10+ years not tied the not yet & I think that it will remain the same till the end :)
Easy done get a divorced one they don't seem in any hurry to go again :)

I can give you my own example. I'm in what would be called a 'de-facto' relationship.
We've been together nearly 5 years and have 1 child almost 1 year old.
We're not married, and haven't done the temple / party thing either.
Neither of us think the formality is a big deal, and since marriage is a religious ritual, it would make no sense. The mrs is Buddhist but in philosophy more than anything, never goes to the temple or do any of that nonsense, and a white christian wedding would churn my stomach.
We do have a mutual commitment that is formalised in marriage rituals.
Her family haven't said anything. She holds it all together and will do as she please. The whisperers will be whisperers I suppose, but we're never confronted with it.
When we go back home, our best option is a marriage visa for the mrs, so we'll go and do the paperwork at the amphur office when we need to / can be arsed.
