Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the world's largest weekend markets covers area of 70 rai (27 Acres) altogether divided into 27 Sections, contains more than 15,000 booths selling goods from every part of Thailand.

Chatuchak Weekend Market,is very popular shopping centre to Thais and has become a popular place to tourists and foreigners who stay in Bangkok, has over 200,000 visitors each day(SAT-SUN) 30% is foreign.

There are almost everything can be found here at a bargaining local price (not a tourist price), and most vendors actually come from local factories, like antique wood carving, clay handicrafts, local souvenirs from every parts of Thailand, Buddhist amulets, wooden funitures, hand made decorated flowers, plant, ceramic wares, dools, Thai Bejarong, Chinese wares, graden decorated plants, stones, trendy fashions, silk, hill-tribe outfits, fluffy dogs and more miscellaneous, etc.

They had a small stage where schoolkids would perform and then pass the hat around. It had a few benches and a helpful person selling beer, so you could sit there and relax while your wife was out shopping. Went there last weekend and discovered the stage had been replaced by a row of garbage cans and the seats were gone. Oh my aching feet.

Yeah, i remember Chatuchak market well and first went there in Nov. 1979 with a hooker from Patpong.
I still have the cassete of the Eagles i bought that day and also i have the herpes i got from my her, my tour guide.
It was not long after the Vietnam war so i cannot and do not blame her.

I've stopped going there as my farang height (6ft.) doesn't work well with the low-hanging awnings. Back in the day, Sanam Luang was pretty cool - everything under the sun.

You've been using quite a bit of Ocker English recently.

I first visited in 1983. I understood that the previous year, the weekend market was in Sanam Luang, but it had to move to a new location, hence Chatuchak.

Back then it was pretty cool and they had a great selection of stuff from all over the place. These days, the variety seems to have died out quite a bit and a lot of stuff is geared either towards tourists or small time import/exporters. I don't think it is fair to say that pricing is at local levels. For example water and soft drinks were more expensive. Similarly, military surplus was way over-priced, and is much much cheaper in Aranyaprathet or Surin at the markets there.

I have heard talk about the whole place being put under cover with airconditioning?
