Black Hose water heating any tips

Have been told black wtaer hose on roof is good option for a ltd bit of hot water. Has anyone any practical experience or links. Need only yield enough for one evening shower. Planning to lay 40m on S facing tile roof wrapped around the double apex so no fixings or weight issues. Main questions is would ground pressure which is fine to 4m existing shower reach another 2 metres higher to the apex If unused for a day or two while away will the water still be hygenic or necessary to flush. Thanks for any advice ,will go for full solar in due course when funding rebuild.

I've got a black water tank. Sometimes you can't put your hand under the tap.

BTW blach hose usually have nasty pimps.

I was told that the black tanks / hoses are least likely to contribute to the growth of Algae?
Would have thought the standard, small, instantaneous electic heater would be cheaper in the long run considering your projected lt usage, establishment costs and longer term posibility of the the water not being potable without some form of reticulation / recycling of hot but not boiling water - temperatures bacteria likes to multiply in???

bacteria thing is an issue.
I use a squirt or two of bleach.

100m of 20mm HDP pipe (cheap to purchase)


Approx Volume 40 litres
Temperature 40C-65C depending on conditions
Approx re-heat time 60 mins
With black HDP in constant use algae is not a problem
Stagnation time depends on water source. City water is chlorinated and will allow longer periods between uses.
Water may contain slight odour from the polythene pipe
Temperature will reduce rapidly after sun sets

The system I made up using 2" ID black polythene pipe worked well.

I made a grid of 6 parallel pipes, 6ft long, connected along the top and base by T-junctions and 2 elbow joints at diagonally opposite corners.
The other 2 corners were T-junctioned to take a cold water inlet pipe at the base, and a hot water outlet at the top.

The hot water flowed upward by convection to the top of an insulated h/w storage tank .
The cooler water at the bottom of the h/w storage tank flowed down to the cold inlet of h/w panel base.

The grid was fastened to a plywood base with 3' timber sides, and that fastened to the roof, with the h/w storage tank on the roof apex.
A cold water "header" tank above the h/w tank supplied the system as water was drained in use.

On a sunny day I'd get 40 gals of very hot water in about 4 hours or so.
After that point the water would get so hot that it would almost boil, so it's a good idea to cover the panel with a lid, or just drain the tank.

It'd stay hot enough for a shower in the morning.
Hot water was drawn for use from the top of the h/w tank, under pressure from the cold water header tank supply.

There was absolutely no chance of bacteria surviving that system.
