Yes - USB connection, connectors and adapters can be a real head-fuck. In, out - In, out all bluddy day long.
What helps (I find, at least) is to buy a USB extension cable (possibly 2), such that you're only attaching/removing the USB extension socket heads all day long. Saves wear and tear on the built-in USB sockets, as you only need to insert the extension(s) ONCE.
My last USB extension cost 50 baht - and that was about 18 months ago. No probs since and should there be a prob, then it's easy to buy a new replacement extension.
