Help with Patong accommodation, transport and surrounding beaches

Hi - I would greatly appreciate some advice fellow BM's.

I am taking my tirak to Phuket for a week - she has never been before.

We want to enjoy the beaches by day and Bangla Rd at night

I was hoping for somewhere that was 4-5 stars that was romantic and hopefully on the beach in Patong? Maybe Impiana if this is recommended? Alternatively a romantic place at the north or south end where we could just hire a bike to go to Bangla at night. (I have stayed at Baan Yin Dee before and loved it but they are all booked out). Any recommendations for this sort of accommodation please?

Also, during the day - what are some of the most beautiful beaches that are not to far from Patong (I have heard Kata, Karon and Surin - is this right?), and if we hire a bike is it easy enough to ride to them or would some other form of transport be preferable?

Finally, any recommendations for a reputable place to hire a motor scooter at a reasonable rate?

If you have to go to Phuket, avoid Patong if possible. Family oriented will tend to be more romantic. Try Kata beach area or one of the other less in your face party places. Peach Hill Resort, Hilton [at] Karon beach or places further South. Rent motor scooter to get around on and travel to more remote and private beaches.

I'd take your Teerak for a nice ride on JJ's jet ski followed up by a spin around Phuket in a Tuk Tuk.

Top day out for sure.

Krabi had one of the most depressing beaches I've ever visited in Thailand (including Pattaya). Although the snorkeling trip was above average.

^You did get some good advice. Patong is a dump. If you insist on going to Phuket, how about something around Surin? The beach is OK and there is some nightlife there.

Patong is ok, the beach is nice, there is plenty do to in the evenings, cheap massages and foot care.

You can often book pretty good deals online with the Patong Resort which is smack dab in the heart of it all. Your teerak will have a ball!

No, PHUKET is a shithole, right from the time when they start shafting you for the taxi from the airport.

And Krabi has more than one beach and a host of places to stay on all budgets.

Although no doubt, sooner or later, as it grows in popularity, the Thais will find a way of fucking it up, like they have Phuket and Phi Phi.

^I defer to your experience about Krabi, Harry. Only went once and the beach I stayed near was crap to the 10 power (ugly color, unswimmable bay, and dirty to boot). I'm sure there are better places away from where I stayed.

Still, I lived on Phuket for a year and enjoyed every minute of it, even when I stayed in Phuket Town for a few months.

Yup, definitely some scamming going on there. Best to get a meter taxi or mini bus for the best value. Shared a taxi with another couple to Patong for about 300 baht last time I was there. Stay away from tuk tuks, rent a motosai or driver with private car is best way to get around - other than the public 20 baht bus - which has a limited route.

Anyway, sorry you had such a horrible time there. Ever been to Phang Nga?
