    "qualified electrician"

    Thai qualified or Western qualified?

    Automatically or manual switch over?

Kicks in during a 'brownout' (low voltage) or a 'blackout'?

Whole of House, every powerpoint and just emergency lighting, fridge and a few selected powerpoints which the computer/modems run off etc (my suggested preference).

It's more then just a simple 'install'.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

I would try and find someone who works in the maintenance department of an upscale hotel. These hotels frequently have back up generators, and (from experience) their electricians regularly do 'homers'.

Not sure where you bought but check with them for an installation crew.

Do you know what Peter ... you can Fuck off.

You ask for advice and I am probably one of the few, if not the only 'qualified' electricians on the Forum.

There is a FB group "Thailand Foreign tradesmen and experts " you might want to look there for advice from someone who worked in the field. Thailand Foreign tradesmen and experts

    Don't listen to Dave48 Peter.

I am also a fully qualified electrician*

I spent an evening researching this very topic a little while back, because I want to hook a deep cycle battery up to the house to cover outages, only to later find when I looked at my leccy panel that I actually already have this feature.

If you lift up the flap that says Power inlet there is a male plug pin set sticking out. The female end of the extension from the battery inverter, or genny, plugs straight in and then you flip the switch (or maybe you flip the switch first, if I forget to check I have still got a 50% chance of getting it right)

This is what it looks like from the back.

So that is one job chalked off the list. Now I just need to google up how to hotwire my solar panels straight into the battery so I can recharge rather than sell to the grid.

Hint ... see what your 'university' says about the AC isolator switch

Positioned adjacent to the inverter a AC switch is required to provide a means of manually isolating the AC supply during system installation or any subsequent maintenance.

Start with this ... Shut Down Proceedure - Nu EnergyNu Energy | Nu Energy

Basically, the AC isolator switch cuts the grid off, the DC isolator switch cuts your solar panels off.

... unless you are using micro inverters on the back of your panels.

Loops, research a solar regulator to drop the DC solar Panel voltage down to your battery's voltage.

Assuming you don't have a Solarhart style hot water and a typical storage type, one way you can save with your Solar is to put a timer on your Hot Water so it heats during the day when your Panels are Pumping.

I have about 2.5 KW of panels on my roof, split roughly east/west on either side of the roof and a 1.5 kw Inverter ... haven't had an electricity bill yet!

    But I digress ...

i know absolutely nothing about connecting a generator to my house electric supply and don't want to know and am very happy to pay someone who knows how to do it for me properly
someone is coming to my home from global house this afternoon to check the house and give me a installation quote
if he sounds capable of doing the job after he tells me what he will be doing i will tell him OK
unfortunately my experience with using electricians in phuket is not good one was the maintenance man for a major resort and was as useless as the rest of them
even i know a earth/ ground wire is not connected to a 2 inch bolt in a brick wall or to the steel roof beams

To get the job done, first you have to understand the job.

It seems you have little understanding of anything.

No ... he's the other electrician on the board, trying to assist you in understanding the task.

Even better chance the crew experienced given all the hotels there.

I have no idea of cost but I do know not a simple job. Pretty sure requires a circuit box to switch between main and gen power and wiring to specific breakers in house distribution box.

    Agreed.

I would like to know the cost of the install and ...

What, if any adjustments had to be made to the existing wiring?

Peter, what was the size/model of the generator you purchased?
