you got some replies and a few light hearted jibes but you set the tone by post 5 with your response to Dave who is a qualified electrician, so quite frankly if you weren't such a cranky arse you wouldn't have got what followed. You must be hoot at a party. Anyway glad to hear its sorted.

To be honest, when there is a big storm I cut the power to our house and pull out all the plugs anyway. The house, or close by, has been struck by lightning several times and I feel a lot safer with no electricity at all during big storms.

We get blackouts for 3 or 4 hours from time to time but it doesn't bother us that much; it's all part of the fun of living in rural Thailand.

It is a battery powered DC light circuit but there is a circuit breaker in the form of a mains AC powered hold-off relay. When the mains power is cut the AC relay closes and your DC light comes on. The light goes out again when either the mains power comes back on, holding the relay open again, or else the battery runs out.

In relation to the changover relay to activate the generator it is also advisable to use a run on timer and a surge arrestor. This prevents short cycling of the power circuit and generator, as power outages can be very brief and helps prevent damage to the generator from short cycling and any power surge damage.

power surges are a real problem in phuket and can cost you a lot when you have to replace damaged electrical items TVs etc
we have 2 main power circuits in our home, one runs the pool pumps and yard lights and some power points, i plug a mossies zapper into that circuit so i know when the power comes back on , then i change from generator on the house back to mains power after about 5 minutes which stops the problem of surges causing damage

it was a long time ago before your famous quote that (we all know the correct tire pressure is 36psi)
maybe i read it wrong and you clean the office, it was something about real estate you will have to look it up yourself
you can make good money installing and removing real estate signs, or you could back when i paid someone to do it for me

Peter, I've made so many 'famous quotes', no idea which one you are referring to.

I have also the Teak Door Humorous Quotes ... ... sadly, there appears to have no entry from you ...

i have used the generator 5 times now from 1 to 7 hours each time, biston recommend running it t least 1 time a month so there has been no need to test run it
with fuel conditioner added to the fuel probably not have to run it unless its needed but i will run it once a month (approx) to make sure its running OK
