    Patong during COVID

This was only my forth visit to Phuket, and only the second since the Tsunami, but I wanted to make a round of some Andaman islands and boost domestic tourism. It was easy navigating Swampy and a pleasant 75 minute flight on VietJet Air budget airline.

Had a taxi booked upon my arrival with transport to Kudo Resort, right on the beach and just a two minute walk to Soi Bangla.

Room was comfortable with two large screen TVs, a mini-kitcken with microwave, and a coffee maker. The FREE minibar was restocked every day and included two cans of Singha.

The balcony featured a huge jacuzzi overlooking the pool with swim-up bar, and a view of the sea.

At night, a DJ played music until 11 and anyone could come in and use the pool for the price of a drink, but there weren't many people around.

I went out for breakfast in the morning but everything was closed except for a few 7-11s. Later, I was able to find a McDonalds that was open several blocks away.

I ended up having breakfast at the resort, which cost 500 baht and was too much food for me.

Savoey Seafood was across the street, open with a 10% covid discount, despite not having much competition, so I had my meals there.

At night, Soi Bangla was almost a ghost town, with 90% of the bars and restaurants closed.

Welcome girls outnumbered pedestrians, this photo at 9:30 PM on a Friday night.

I found some live music had some 69 baht mojitas

Fortunately, the outside bar Sweetiebar was open

Bangla Walking Street was also nearly deserted, but Suzy Wongs GoGo was open and I spent most of my time there drinking 99 baht mojitos and buying 220 baht lady drinks for naked girls to grind on my lap.

Then it was off to Ko Phi Phi

The thing with Patong, it's only a magnet for tourists, with very, very few local Thai patrons. It also has a relatively small expat population as opposed to other areas such as Kamala and Rawai, where whilst businesses are quieter and in cases closed, there is still quite a healthy nightlife scene and restaurant availability.

Phuket Town itself is also managing to maintain a fairly good consistency of options, though is completely the opposite to Patong in that it's Thai centric rather than Farang.

Looks a bit sad, dunnit? I do feel sorry for the Thai people- well, the ones doing it tough.

I spoke to a Thai friend today, Her view- fekkit, we're all gonna die one day anyway. Open up the country (desperately in need of tourist dollars) and let people live, before they die. It's better than leaving them to die, because they can't live anymore.

Thanks for sharing- interesting shots, if a bit maudlin. Wanted to green ya, but no ammo. Later.

Enjoyed Koh Kood, enjoyed Koh Chang, but this thread is about a shithole. Patong. Was first there 40 years ago and it was heaven. Gone downhill ever since. The Thai's avoid it for a reason.

I love southern Phuket, Karon, Kata, Nai Harn, Rawai, Chalong, but I wont even drive through Paton on the way there..

it will be at least 12 months before business picks up in Patong and the the tourists come back if they ever do
members of my family were taking the holidays in Vietnam before the virus hit, more bang for your buck
businesses are still surviving in rawai but with a lot less trade and customers and reduced prices
plenty of long term expats live in the area which helps then survive the downturn in business if they know how to run a business

went to phuket town at 7pm on Sunday night, very busy with no parking anywhere near the walking street
dropped the women and children of so the could have a look around and was told it was very busy with plenty of expats there
parked about a KLM away to wait for them, probably have to go about 5.30pm if you want to get reasonably close parking

The schools in phuket have have been ordered by the head office in Bangkok to open on 14/6/2021
get ready for the fourth wave of covid if they do it and if the same ruling applies to all of Thailand
no children have been vaccinated up to now and they cannot stop children gathering in groups to play
you would think any sensible person making these rules would have learnt from what happen at songkran TIT

anyone who has the virus spreads it , why would i believe its just the children ??
As far as i know and can find out no children have been inoculated against against the covid virus in Thailand up to now
Schools are a better place for the virus to spread than bars and restaurants that's for sure

I think you're somewhat 'challenged', and my suspicions grow stronger by the day.

How on earth you've reached the conclusion that I have not understood the article correctly, only you will know.

Ok, if you're too far gone to just read through again and realise you're being an idiot then...crack on, eh?

It's actually you that was 'disagreeing' and trying to be a smartarse, but you were disagreeing with a post of mine you'd apparently got mixed up in what passes for your brain.

Oh and by the way, posting from 'computer shops' died about a decade ago. You might need to look at getting some new material.
