...for a messy weekender
Might drive around to Ao Nang and have a night there too.
How far is Koh Lanta from there, can you put a car on a ferry?. Is that worth a look. Always fancied it
TIA

You haven't said where, other than also going to Ao Nang (Krabi). Yes, there's a ferry from the mainland to Koh Lanta Noi, then a bridge to Koh Lanta Yai. Really nothing special there, a few enclaves of resorts stretching along the west coast of the island. Lanta Old Town is quite quaint to spend a couple of hours. From Ao Nang, probably take around 2 hours.
Ah, just seen its in the Phuket Forum, so that's a reasonable clue.....
Assuming that this isn't a 'family' weekend, the Expat Hotel (Expat Hotel | Budget hotel in Patong Beach, Phuket) might suit. Easy walk to most of the nightlife options, and as per title, very much a western expat place, with a decent bar and staff. Small swimming pool, and I believe decent rooms for quite a cheap price.
Phuket... I thought the subforum gave that away
Can I get to Koh Lanta from Phuket by boat? Is it worth it? I wanna do some sightseeing with a friend. I have 3 days. Any suggestions mate?
Yes, here are some ferry options:
Koh Lanta Ferry, Koh Lanta Speedboat, Koh Lanta Bus | Phuketferry.com
I don't believe they carry vehicles however. As I said before, Lanta isn't anything special, just some laid back beach resorts.
If you wanted a decent day out, I would recommend this:
Sea Cave Canoe : The excursion of kayaking&canoeing in Phuket – Sea Cave Canoe
I had family here in September and joined them for this, and actually quite impressed with the organisation.
^^That looks cool. I will try that.
Lanta sounds like a romantic getaway so I will just drive round to Ao Nang, take in Phan Nga and show him Railay beach, the 4 beach tour and the cave full of wooden cocks then ask him if he still fancies Lanta will get up and do Koh Phi Phi too. Any more suggestions on things to do?
The boast from Phuket will drop you off at the main town of Saladan.
Not much to do on the island apart from drink, beach and hire a motorbike out for a tour.
Usual beach life, with small bars scattered along each beach hoping to make enough through the high season to sustain them through the low season.
Can't really get lost because there is only 2 main(ish) roads. One goes from top to bottom, whilst the other takes you to a gypsy village.
Muslim island, so you might get some chicken ham/sausages with your brekkie in some places.
Most of the people you will bump into will be divers/backpackers and small family groups.
Not been for a few years, so I'm more than happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
Black diamonds? I shit 'em.
^^ Cheers for that mate
Gonna spend the first night and last night in The Boathouse, and other night in Ao Nang.
I took a car over there, twenty years ago now, from Krabi.
We were ferried to Koh Lanta Noi, which we drove across, and then again from Lanta Noi to Lanta Yai.
It was fine, though a bit time consuming.
We were last in that area when we were staying on Koh Jum and the tsunami hit.
Phi Phi is just about halfway to Lanta from Phuket. Hour and a half to there just under 3 to Lanta.
^ So which one is Dill? I reckon it could be either?
I'm the tall dark and erm brute on the left with the bigger packed lunch.
Thats my wingman and flying midget extroadinaire Lulu on the right
All things considering... you've done pretty well!
Although the boat house is indeed nice, ( the wine list at the restaurant is 5 star ( with prices to match) the area outside the hotel sucks...
There a 3 very nice beachfront hotels in Kamala, ( twin palms, Novotel, Sunwing) walking to bars, restaurants, shopping, beach is not that busy....Plus a beach club with a pool
Laguna has some very nice 4-5 hotels/resorts.
Lanta is good for a relaxing holiday of a couple of days, NOT worth the drive for a day or even one night. Have you been to the monkey temple outside Phang Nga? The tiger temple outside Krabi?
Highly recommend John Greys nighttime sea canoe tour..."Hong By Starlight"
^ Thanks for that Richard. I've seen enough wild monkeys and doped up tigers, will look into the canoeing but I just imagine mosquitos of an evening
Gonna scratch Koh Lanta off the list, will look at the hotels though, haven't booked yet and was thinking somewhere closer to Bangla Road would be better for somewhere to stumble back to after a heavy night
Cheers
I saw that you were only there for the weekend so, yeah, I suspect that Bangla will meet your requirements better than Lanta.
