renewing your Thai driving liceense in Phuket

Has anyone who lives in Phuket used the Phangnga town traffic authority to renew their Thai driving license and is it possible to do it there
Last time i renewed my license at Phuket town i was there for 6 hours to get it done, there was a queue of applicants about 100 people long

Dunno about Phuket. But in Pattaya you need to get there an hour early to queue up unless you wanna be there all day. Took me 3 hours this year after getting there half hour early. Didn't have to sit through any videos though, mostly waiting for my number to come up to start the procedure.

Tea money seems to help when queues are an issue.

I have renewed mine in 3 different provinces.

1st - Temporary (1 year or to your birthday) licence in Chiang Mai

2nd - Full 5 year in Bangkok (Sukhumvit Road around soi 66ish?)

3rd - Full 5 year in Samut Prakan

4th - Due in a few months and will probably do up North somewhere whilst on holiday.

As long as you have a work permit or residence cert, then you can do anywhere. A quick phone call to the centre you plan to use will clear it up 100%.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

I did, no problem renewing the licenses though at the time I was concerned that they had me down at the village address which I could never have given because I didn't and still don't know it.

Three years of retirement extensions followed at immigration soi 5, and on the fourth year some jobsworth decided to get busy and refuse the extension because according to their records I live up north, so I would need to go there to extend, even though I had already passed 3 extensions and a dozen 90-day reports.

No prizes for guessing what happened next!

Thank you for the replies, it confirms what i believe can bee done, its not like 90 day reporting which has to be done in your home province at present
I new Thais can go to another province to get their driving license my wife got hers in Phangnga, and my step son got his commercial driving license in Suratthani, he only had to wait 2 weeks instead of the 2 months waiting period at phuket to apply for it
Mine is due for renew next month and i will do it at Phangnga

Everything varies with location in Thailand as we know. In Nan I could no longer use my work permit as they no longer put home address on the WP. The transport dept folks were confused with the change and loaded me and the boss and two staff into a van and we all went to immi to straighten it out. In the end I needed a residence cert-500B no receipt but no worries.

^ Had the same problem when I was in Phrae years back. At the time, they didn't have an immigration there, so the driving licence place wanted me to drive to Nan to get a residence cert. Decided to make a mini holiday out of it and went to Chiang Mai instead.

For any folks that are interested, Phrae opened a new immigration place a few months back at the main police station.

Always needed a proof of residence from immigration in Phuket, its supposed to be free but they charge a lot of people 500B for it
Still the cost of renewing your DL is a lot cheaper than Western Australia, but its a lot less hassle to do it their, They post the renewal to your home and you pay for it at your local post office where they take your photo and return your new license by post in about 7 days
