    HEADS UP

In the Rawai area there are Thai people riding around on motorcycles who when they see a foreigner are driving into the side of the vehicle as you pass them and claim you have hit them, they did it to me, as i passed them they hit my pickup by the rear taillight and claimed i had run into them.
I told them if they wanted to make any problems the damage was at the rear of the vehicle not the front which meant they had run into me and to piss off
There was only a slight mark on the paintwork made by someone hitting the side of the truck with their hand with something in it, i have been told by someone in the know there a a few couples doing this

I think you are getting a bit paranoid there Peter.

The textbook way the Indians do it in the UK is to wait around a blind bend and slam their brakes on so you ram them up the arse, then they claim for their car and whiplash for the 5 of them who were sat in the car.

Peter's account seems pretty believable to me.

At least it doesn't defy physics like waiting somewhere and then slamming your brakes on.

Leave it there and next time point to it and ask which mark they made?

That's fact not fiction. Mate wasn't Indian but close enough, had a smart BMW more or less on its last legs, invested a few quids in petrol looping between Marble Arch and HPC outside of rush hours when traffic flows, didn't take long to notch up two hits complete with admission and apologies. Good days them were.

    How does that defy physics?

If you put your brakes on then you will incur more damage than without.

Stick to English Teachy and finding typos

How exactly does one wait around a blind corner and then slam on the brakes ..without defying The Standard Model?

A thread about Thailand descends into a rant about magical Indians transcending the laws of physics in the UK?

    A texbook case you say?

not commenting on anything directly related to what's mentioned in the OP, but you'd have to be crazy to drive without a dashcam here.

Very common scam, except apparently for people in Wolverhampton.

They're too busy watching out for stationary vehicles about to have their brakes slammed on.

One of these so called teachers who get their diploma from a fake online Indian teachers academy is he
They are not qualified to work as a teacher in their home country, that's why they work for the low wages paid in Thailand
There was a so called teacher who was recently drinking in a Rawai bar and had no money to pay his bill and though they would give him credit
Got his ass kicked out of the bar and deserved it

The wife had a similar incident in Jaransinitwong Macro car park - she was driving a car out of a space when a woman and a young kid jumped in front of her and claimed injury, went to the police station to get money... Alas for them, the wife doesn't take well to people trying to mug her off, so she asked around, got info on the woman, spoke to a few businesses and got video recordings of the woman waiting around the area, especially in that car park, then took the recordings to the police. Woman was never heard of again...

Similar thing happened in Nakhon Nowhere - she went to the hospital, came out and the car had been hit. Apparently, the local road/hospital cameras covering the area were not working, so she spent a few days asking around, found a friendly policeman from a different police station (after all the local police claimed to know nothing and couldn't help...), took the policeman to the hospital to insist on their video, and also from the local street camera - turns out the cameras were working, and a local council truck had hit the car, the driver got out, spoke to the hospital security, got back in the van and drove off... The number plate and person were clear on the video, passed onto the insurance company and everything covered.

Crazy wives can be useful when they're on your side...

A couple years ago I got "clipped" rear drivers side. Didn't feel a thing. Had a pickup truck with 4 thai's in it chasing me beeping their horn 'till I stopped. Then saying I had "hit" them. Not a mark on my car. Not a scratch not a ding absolutely nothing. Their truck had one of the SS Crash Bars that was bent out of shape and had black paint marks on it (passengers side front) - my car is, you guessed it "white". So, the four Thai's are demanding I follow them to the local Cop Shop a few blocks away. Hmm... wonder who would be working the desk, eh? One of your brother-in-laws perhaps?

Anyway, I called my insurance company, ten minutes later an agent on a motorcycle showed up, took a bunch of pictures, said I could go, which I did. End of story. Never heard another word about it. Assume though, if I had followed them to the cop shop I would have been shook down for a big chance of change.

Had a guy put his motor bike immediately behind my rental car just before I backed out of a parking spot. He mistimed and pushed his bike over before I'd even moved. Made a lot of noise and had some mates saying I pushed the bike over. He had some dull metal bit in his hand saying it came off the bike. The amazing thing was he just wanted 200 baht. Didn't even argue. Just pulled it out of the wallet without getting out of the car but dropped it on the ground making him grovel for it. The wife was both incensed by them and embarrassed beyond words. This was maybe eight years ago.

it has been going on for many years in Phuket, they sit waiting in a small side street and pull out without checking in front of a vehicle they think they can scam
some stupid law here that the larger vehicle is in the wrong especially if a foreigner is involved in a accident
recently had a passenger van try to cut me of when i was turning right from the correct turn lane, he was in the lane next to me that was marked as straight on
To cut a long story short i told him to call the police which he did, when the police arrived i told them i had the entire incident on dash and rear cameras but they refused to look at the recording, told me to go and Finnish my meal in the restaurant he had tailed me to and told him to learn the road rules

very similar thing happen to me awhile back, the axpat only wanted 500 baht which i refused to pay preferring to have the BIB attend as he was a obvious scam artist
MY wife wanted to give him the 500 baht just to shut him up which i said was OK as long as the money did not come from me
Took of like a rat going down a drainpipe 500 baht what a looser if he had asked for more i would have insisted the BIB attended the accident
no wonder Thais try the same scam if they see a foreigner get away with it
