Is this stupidity or normal Thai way of thinking things through

When traveling especially to a new tourist destination i always book a package which includes accommodation, airport transfers and breakfast included
When arriving at the destination airport anywhere in the world your driver holds up a sign with your name on it so you know which driver is there to pick you up, saves all the hassling by freelance drivers at the airport
It seems that phuket airport is thinking about banning these signs, another brilliant idea to drive tourists away to other holiday destinations
    Whats your opinion about this

Lots of quite vague ideals have become rules in Thailand in the 12 years i have lived here in phuket if a lot of people do not disagree with them and let their feelings be know

What's the reason for the authorities wanting to ban these signs?

They are too stupid to realize that sign-holding will turn into clamoring verbal approaches .....

I was told its because the new airport buses are losing money because they do not have enough paying passengers, second hand information but very likely to be true

I've never heard of it so don't know if it's true ... but if true, a guess would be that it would reduce the number of pre-booked taxis (possibly coming from several miles away) and increase the number of taxis required that are sitting waiting at or just outside the airport. This would benefit the taxis operating out of or associated with the airport.

I'm waiting for a poster to suggest, "What's the difference?".
In this case, it does seem very Thai, and it does seem stupid. Kneejerk of one person with a bit of rank and a complaint from someone with connections, with no regard to the fact that it will make no difference to the number of bus passengers, and only make things difficult for both the innocent hired drivers and their innocent passengers.

This type of character and mindset is quite common among the ignorant.

Encouraging visitors to use public transport, therefore reducing pollution and congestions seems like a good idea.

I do not go to the airport very often mate, last time was in October 2017 and our son who has a Toyota commuter minibus dropped us of and picked us up, he does not need a sign we all know what each other look like, that's how i know about the new proposed regulation, there is another regulation that they are planning to bring in as well but i wont mention it here and get the trolls all excited

You should use the bus then and save the world, personally i will always use private transport that delivers us to the front door of our house
The buses travel a set route and you still need some way of getting from the bus stop to your home if its not in walking distance
