I have never had a guy or girl standing with a placard bearing my name at Arrivals. Can't even bear the thought....

Normal practice with 4 and 5 star resort hotels and some 3 star ones to send a driver to the airport to pick you up who holds up a sign in arrivals with your name on it
Does not happen with cheaper accommodation suppliers like backpacker hostels and guest houses

You seem to know a lot about backpacking.

Are you one of those ‘travel blogger’-types.

I'm sure it's been done, but oddly, most arrivals have somewhere to go and a free ride to an unkown destination is not very inviting.

I'm sure it is. However, I have always arrived at my hotel under my own steam. I'd rather organise a driver, on the rare occasion I need one I don't know, on arrival. I had a few work colleagues get into trouble in the distant past and never followed the standard practice. Rio de Janeiro was the worst for a mugging on Arrival that I can recall...

There are these things called taxis that fulfil that function. Let me know if you need instructions on how they work I will be happy to walk you through.

Perhaps the placard holder is also told an identifying trait of the target?

Something like 'he's the short-fused, miserable looking one.'

they take the guests directly to the resort they have booked reception desk, any backpacker pretending to be someone else would probably be in trouble with the police who the resort would contact, any more stupid questions you troll

Yes it does the interior has been change.d from 14 seats in the rear to 9 larger seats with more leg room and it has cup holders and a work shelf for the front row of 3 passengers and Wi Fi internet as well if you can afford a smart phone
Anyway this forum is getting very boring with the trollers who think they are members of the purple circle hiding behind their computers who cannot afford to live in Phuket because its to expensive for them, must come from Romania or some other eastern European country, this forum was originally read by whoring sexpats like the other anonymous forum, its dying a slow death like its regular posters
No wonder Facebook is so popular, i heard the visa fees are about to double on the grapevine, that will get rid of the majority of you
