Do not listen to these nutters memock. Patong is the best bit of Phuket and the only reason to go there!

It is a veritable smorgasbord of transnational tottie and a regional hub of hotties.

The final score at the end of my world cup tour this year was Thailand 5 - Africa 5 (with 5 second half goals from South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda) with Laos taking home the 3rd place play-off bronze medal.

^The quality of the native game is still amazingly fresh I think but the Bangla discos are like going on safari these days.

I also made the acquaintance of a lovely dusky svelte lady from the strange sounding land of Zanzibar which knocks off the letter Z on my sesame street map of the world but when I quickly googled it on my phone it turned out to be merely an autonomous region of Tanzania rather than a country in its own right so I declined the offer of her companionship - but my geography was improving by the day!

Do not listen to these patong poo-poo-ers memock and make a beeline for Bangla

OK you lot this is the truth about living or having a holiday on Phuket by someone who has been living here for 12 years and is not a sexpat
Phuket like Samui are holiday destinations whose main form of income is from tourism there is no industry here and very little farming so everything is imported from other areas and is more expressive than other areas popular with tourists in Thailand , Samui is more expensive than Phuket from my own personal experience but i have only been there as a tourist, both places are much cheaper than Australia for everything

Patong is the main area picked by first time tourists, the main red light district is there but it only makes up less than 5% of the total area of Patong, there is also a smaller red light area in Phuket town, Patong and Phuket town has a good range of tourist type shops, restaurants and entertainment, Phuket town is cheaper for shopping if you know where to look, it has a excellent weekend market with plenty of copy items

All the long term expats i know started in Patong and very quickly shifted elsewhere on the island away from the noise, traffic and con merchants, mainly to areas south of Patong but some like the Kamala area, i settled in Rawai after living in Patong, Kathu, Kata and chalong, taxis are not expensive if you know how to negotiate and rental motorcycles and cars are not expensive just remember that most of the small time renters have no insurance and you will be responsible for any lose or damage so check the vehicle or bike very carefully for any damage before taking delivery of it

Phuket has all types of things for tourists to do and see, you will not be bored and also has good private hospitals if you should need one, just remember you will not be covered by travel insurance if you ride or drive without a valid license or do something that is not covered by your insurance, you may not be released from the private hospital until you have paid your bill yourself

I have traveled by road just about everywhere in Thailand from Chang mai in the north to Satun in the south and have not found anywhere else better than Phuket for infrastructure and services or to live or have a holiday at

Thanks again for everyone and their information I have copied and printed most of what has been written above and am having lunch with them today to go over it with them. I am sure there will be a few more questions to come!

There's planning and then there's over planning.
Tell em to book a flight.
    Wing and a prayer.
