A follow up on this. Today was the second year that the event had been held in Phuket, again at the Phuket Yacht Club. Last year's was well attended, but eclipsed by the great support this year, probably around 300 people, including a small contingent from HMAS Anzac which is currently berthed in Bangkok. There was even a small contingent of Thai veterans.

The Phuket Vice Governor was there, along with the Phuket Chief of Police, Australian Consul, and a Consul from the New Zealand Embassy. They had contracted an AV company to have mobile flat screen TV's which were showing clips from conflicts past. A Scottish piper played whilst the sun rose over Chalong Bay, and after all of the speeches and hymns, a bugler played the Last Post.

Wreaths were laid, cooked breakfast sandwiches were dispensed, coffee and tots of Bundaberg consumed per tradition.

Last year, most people had drifted away within 30 minutes of the close of ceremonies, but this year there was a good crowd for nearly 2 hours afterwards. Lots of lamp swinging and sandbags being pulled up methinks.

Things kicked off as planned at 5.45 a.m. this morning as planned, and the weather was kind, cloudy and a slight breeze, with the thunder and lightning in the area at 04.00 coming to nothing.

Royal Marines. I'm British, though haven't lived in the UK for over 20 years, so welcome the opportunity to participate and support expat and particularly Commonwealth Allied veterans events such as this.
