Does anyone know of another such shop in Phuket?

Don't know of any deli's per se, but Villa Market has a decent selection of meats and cheeses, as well as breads. Don't know how it would compare price wise with the Patong deli though. There are 3 VM's in Phuket, the one that I use is fairly large and in Chalong. I've been into the one at Boat Lagoon (Koh Keaw) and that's smaller. The third one's in Cherng Talay, but can't comment on that.

There's also this delivery service that advertise quite frequently in TV:

Still keep my condo in Patong and still have the massage shop.

Gotta show up from time to time to whip the girls into shape, and tend to the visa bullshit.

There's always a fresh crop of jungle issan girls to train up!

That indeed is a crisis. There is, to my knowledge, only one really good deli chain in the PI - Santi's. I have two branches within an hour of me. If they closed, I'd truly be fucked.

Good to know about the villa market in Chalong. There are things they have you cannot find anywhere else.
I like the one on Sukumvit rd.

Very well travelled fellow, and has been there at the business for the past 30 years!

I was cycling around at the time and I think I talked him into taking up cycling in his retirement.

Earl, out of curiosity did he tell you why he is closing the deli? I have purchased at the Village Market in Udon since they do stock those hard to find western items. You will pay an inflated price for them though. That reminds me to make a Vlassic Kosher Dill pickle run.

The third one's in Cherng Talay, but can't comment on that.

It's quite big and well stocked, but the prices range from silly to ludicrous. Luckily there's a Lotus Express close by so you can get nice fruit and veg there for ~60% of the price at Villa and just get the things not available in there at Villa.

Also it's always pretty quiet and has lots of parking so it's quite convenient and they flog off some really good French cheeses at 1/2 price when they are approaching the expiry date.


Don't tell Earl though, my liver probably can't take another one of his visits to Cherng Talay...

He just said it was time to retire after thirty years there.
Though I kinda suspect a business slowdown with the arrival of gazillions of china and india visitors, as they wouldn't be regular customers.

I rode by today and noticed a for sale sign in the window. The property was probably a pretty good deal 30 years ago.

^ thats history Earl, it's about closing shop, the reason it probably closed is that a great Guru from the North inspired him to get on his bike and pedal through Burma, on a new friendship highway linking the two countries of India and Burma.
He was told that his journey would get published in "Lonely Planet" and would make him famous.

This time it will be flavored with mango, the hoppy mead was a taste I never quite acquired, though very strong alcohol content.

the choice of meats and cheeses ( and baked goods) at the Super Big c in Junk ceylon is very good, ( better than the villa in Chern Talay/Laguna) Better than Central and as good as villa in Chalong but better prices

TroUble with Macro however is that you enter with a basket to buy a few things and come out with two or three trolley loads of all those imported goodies that you ain't eaten for a while.
Lat year went to buy a a large $1200 bt rice cooker to cook feed for dogs..
Came out with a bill of 6k plus... Must admit the bulk bacon was excellent!
