After all the bad publicity worldwide regarding the overcharging, cheating, violent behaviour, mafia involvement and refusal to give foreign tourists a fair deal it would be a fool indeed who could recommend using any local transport in Phuket.

Is your Father in posession of an official taxi drivetrs licence, is his vehicle insured to cover full medical cover for any injuries that passengers may receive as the result of an accident and does he have yearly medical checks, especially blood pressure and eyesight, to confirm his fitness to drive.

Is his vehicle regularly serviced and inspected, are the tyres and brakes in good condition. Does your father ever consume alcohol in the 8 hours before he accepts passengers.

Has he ever had a conviction for careless driving, being at fault in an accident or have any criminal conviction?

Perhaps you could also post his price list for some of the more common trips, such as Airport pickup to Patong.

Phuket taxi prices are amongst the highest in the world, yet the standards adhered to by most of the criminal monkeys that operate as taxi, tuk tuk, and minivan drivers are amongst the lowest in the world and foreigners are tired of being ripped off, cheated, misled and attacked by these police and mafia protected parasites.

Tourists need to know that if they are paying high prices for a service, then that service will be delivered to them in a professional, honest, responsible and ethical manner. These things are in very short supply in Thailand where most services offered to tourists are controlled by mafia groups, corrupt policemen and greedy violent drug abusing providers.

If your father is none of these, then he deserves to succeed, so rather than just post his phone number, please convince us that your Father is good enough to provide a safe professional service to visitors to your country.

Taxi drivers are no different in any other country.
In some countries, in order to obtain a licence, they are obliged to demonstrate their suitability and qualifications for the job, so that passengers can have a degree of confidence in the service.

The basic qualifications should be a roadworthy vehicle, comprehensive insurance and a driver not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

It would also be helpful if he didnt keep a baseball bat under his seat, his forward vision wasnt obscured by a jungle of plastic flowers hanging off his rear view mirror and a dashboard lined with six inch tall buddha statues, he carried enough small coinage to be able to give 50b in change now and again and he refrained from using his mobile phone to argue with his wife whilst travelling at 80kmh.

When back in the UK, i use Taxis,to go from job to job around UK, I don't pay the client pays.

The majority of time when i hand them the taxi receipt i get told how come you got charged so much. One client was incensed so much he phoned the taxi company, as he used them regular and got his ripped off money back.

Tax you have to try and remember this is Thailand

If you really want to "help" your father, rather than just get some more work for him, then you should really answer some of my points.

If he offers a real quality service, then he will find foreign tourists queuing up to use his services, and recommending him to others.

If you feel so strongly that this taxi driver should be promoted here without any questions being asked, then give him a ring and use his service.

Right so all Taxis drivers are piss heads or druggies.

If that's the case don't use any public transport services in Thailand, may make you feel safer.

An unknown poster makes their first and only post on this forum promoting the services of a phuket taxi driver who also happens to be her father and immediately you seem to have fallen hook line and sinker for her story about him being so kind, on time and always willing to help.

The mere words "Phuket" and "taxi driver" in the same sentence should be enough to set alarm bells ringing for anyone who has spent more than one day in Thailand.

P.S. you have won a super dooper prize, honest. please send your credit card details to taxexile enterprises megacorp, mug punter department, arthur daley house, shyster street, kazakhstan.

Tax, you win the award for the most negative poster on this board. But its become a broken record. The same refrain on every post. Why not let the posters who are inclined give him a call or a text and see what he charges and what he is all about.

It must be hard to get up in the morning with the chip you are carrying on your shoulder.

Its hard to find anything positive to say about the hypocrisy of the thai authorities, coach drivers that flee the scene, the corrupt and thuggish police, the drunken drivers, the phuket taxi mafia and the judicial system and those are the things that make up a large propotion of the threads here.

I am quietly appreciative of many of the building and travel threads though!

    What AO said.

Let's give the guy a chance before we all knock him and his services. If he's good and tells his friends that TD is a good place to list their equally good services then TD members will benefit.

If he is thinking of ways to drum up business and hits upon the idea to ask his daughter who is obviously reasonably computer savvy and can read and write English better than about half the posters here to advertise on expat forums then he is already head and shoulders above a lot of the other drivers here.

There are a few nice, reliable van drivers out there who have repeat customers year after year who wouldn't dream of booking anybody else during their annual holiday but they get lost in the noise of the bad ones, and god knows there are plenty of those.

If not then, well, it's a forum with all that that entails.
