    Where to stay in Phuket

I'm off with a mate for a weekend soon. Never done Phuket before, can't be as bad as some people make out.

Where's the best part to stay and what else is there to do apart from drinking and shagging ?

    Cheers

Kata and stay here if you can. Italian run and just a great place.

Boomerang Village Resort Phuket | Official Site | Resort Hotels in Phuket

This would be with the family, not for the nightlife. You can book it through agoda, and I have a thread up from about 4 years ago. Check it out mate.

    Joint looks like this https://teakdoor.com/phuket-forum/722...adventure.html

Drinking, shagging, rent a jet ski and get ripped off, catch a tuk tuk and get ripped off, get shipwrecked on a speedboat trip, get left behind on a dive trip, see the ladyboy show.

This place would be right up your alley I reckon...

Aquarius: Phuket Hotel, Accommodations in Patong Beach, Thailand.

Perfect for you and your "mate"..

If you must stay in Phuket then Kata is better than Karon and Karon is bettter than Patong... Kata is nowhere near as good as it used to be (I had 6 great months living there abouuuuuuuuuuut 15 years ago), but it's ok. There used to be a pub there, ran by a Welsh chap, had a very nice Sunday lunch...

That looks quite nice AO, I'm not taking the family though. This is gonna be a nag-free weekend of pure debauchery, hedonism and fun

I've decided where I'm going now

Sunset Beach Resort Phuket Thailand - Best discount hotel rates

Got a deluxe room with brekky for 1600 baht a night off Agoda.

Although I've been told this is the best place for a fry up on the island, you'll like this Betty

Patong Hotels - The Yorkshire Hotel, Patongs favourite hotel.

I invariably smile at these threads, and the Phuket experts/bashers come into play. What is really apparent about Phuket at the current time is the change in demographics of it's visitors, and the impact that it's had in the more popular resorts (plus traffic).

The west coast (roughly from south to north, Kata to Bang Tao), are congested, lots of restaurants of differing ilks and quality, difficult to move between unless on self sourced transport, and with a pricing premium matching say London with northern UK for example (i.e. rip off).

Huge numbers of Russians and Chinese, many of whom seem to spend their days sat glumly in large (40-50 seat plus) coaches, visiting a variety of latex establishments or perusing the not so great views from Laem Phromthep. To be fair, these are the package tourists, and there are also large numbers of (particularly) Russians who are independent travellers or long term residents seeking the same as most expats.

For a chill out weekend with the option of 'extra curricular activities', I would probably recommend either Rawai or the Chalong pier road area. Decent places with 'normal' pricing for drinks and anything else you can think of, with a healthy contingent of expats who of course will only be too happy to lend their learned wisdoms.......

all depends on what you want,
Patong has the malls, shopping , bars, crowded beach, traffic, did i say bars?
Tons of accommodations form 500 baht/night up to 10,000. since ur traveling solo stay here.
Karon has a few very big hotels and ideal place to be if you have kids as the big hotels have playgrounds, pools ( sometimes more thna one) but u need cross the road to hit the beach
Kata, small area full of budget travlers with a few up market hotels ( Club med), Club med is the ONLY beach
Kata noi is nce but than agian not much to do atnight so u need pay crazy fees for a tuk tuk overt he hill to Kata
Heading north form Patong u have Kamala, small more laid back beach , more families and not as crowded, small gh's on the beach, small rests on the beach and a small bar area,
Laguna, for the up market set, beautiful beaches an some very nice resorts ( again good if u have kids) but there is a high price that goes with it.

Than there are places elsewhere as well,

I'm sure that there are many Nok's in shops along that road.......

TBH, I don't use any of the bars along there, only very, very occasionally (like once every couple of months) Chalong Beer Garden or Happy Days, neither of which are purveyors of 'adult' entertainment.

Had a UK buddy of mine staying with me for a month over last XMas/New Year, and we'd occasionally venture into Rawai, where at lunchtime there were always a few in The White Hart and Asia Bar. Asia in particular seemed to have quite a stable of BG's, though absolutely no hassle from them. From recollection, both places did small Singha's at 60 baht which is within the parameter of what I term 'normal'.

Can't say that I've seen any kind of signage for the place. That road has undergone substantial redevelopment over the last couple of years, so it's possible the building no longer exists.

I recommend you to stay in Kata, Rawai or Karon rather than Patong

If you are then on a Saturday evening make sure you go to Dons bar for the BBQ. It's on Nanai Rd, Patong opposite the Tesco Express. Great feed and nice staff.
