Club Med in Phuket

Hello All,

Has anyone stayed at the Club Med in Phuket recently? My wife and I stayed there a few years ago and had a great time (the snorkeling was fantastic).

I'm thinking of heading back to Phuket in a year or so and was wondering if the Club Med's food and enertainment was still up to par.

Thanks for the information. It does look like they have spruced things up quite a bit, and Club Med food (I've stayed at Club Meds 4 times (2x- Guadelupe -FWI, 1x -Bora Bora, and 1x - Phuket) is always fantastic.

I can't wait to get back to Phuket.

As for the naysayers, Club Meds are not for everyone. If you like to get drunk out of your skull and pick up hookers, then the Club Med scene is definitely not for you.

But, if you admire light-hearted humor (in the European sense), enjoy prime beach locations, and love, high-quality food, then you are garaunteed to have a great time at a Club Med resort (just don't expect too much from the rooms - as Club Med doesn't expect it GMs to remain in their rooms except for sleeping, showering, and changing clothes).

like any all inclusive it is for those who are not adventurous but want to travel to exotic locations .... to each his own

Club med in phuket is on a block of land that was for sale for 25k in 1980!

Presuming that you are including me in the naysayers, I would point out that many, many people (myself included) absolutely loathe overpriced, poor quality "all inclusive" vacation resorts, and are not "out to get drunk out of your skull and pick up hookers". When I go on a trip, I much prefer to investigate on my own or with my family, discover local cuisine, and tour new locations at my own speed while interacting with the local population rather than being stuffed like a hog on overpriced tourist imitations of local cuisine on some private beach where the only indigenous people you will ever meet are hotel staff and your days will be spent in "light-hearted humor in the European sense" with the same countrymen you presumably went abroad to get away from while discovering new places. Club Meds and their ilk are for timid tourists who want to buy the packs of overpriced postcards, but care nothing for new experiences in a new country. Have fun; I'd rather have a root canal..

Hmm. I wasn't particularly including you, but for the record I have been in over 43 different countries staying everywhere from some of the best hotels in the world to sleeping in tents in the African bush. Club Meds (like any all-inclusive) can be an enclosed bubble where you never experience any of the real country, or a very enjoyable and pleasant get-away where you can interface with the locals as much as you want.

Having visited and lived in Thailand for a couple of years, I can certainly say that most of the Thai food you get in Koh Samui and Koh Phuket is NOT the same Thai food you get in small towns and villages where the menu's are entirely in Thai. Club Med Thai food is generally better than what the average Thai restaurant serves to foreigners. Believe that.
