Ko samui - first and last visit

I'd heard various reports about Samui (usually bad ) but just went there the other day to check it out - stayed 3 days and that was enough - couldn't stand the place.

I stayed at Lamai beach where you couldn't really swim (red flags etc..) and the nightlife sucked - either bored girls or those with a bad attitude etc..

plus all the usual fucks trying to sell you shit all the time....I could go on ranting ....the taxi fuckers that want you to pay 400B for a 10 kilometer ride..

I guess there are nicer parts of the island and it appeals to some but talk about a plastic resort.

anyone like the place or have any views on Lamai beach area?

you went to the wrong beach

Thai restaurants are overpriced and taste like shit (900 THB average for 2 persons)

But nice expensive farang place for about 1.000 THB for 2

It's the same all over the island, era. Twas a time when the euros chose Lamai and left the other beaches to the leachier yanks and hippies. It's all owned and operated by gangsters with their whores and Burmese illegals who pay a third of what they earn to the local police. Kho Tao isn't any better, worse in fact because there aren't as many whores, drugs is their specialty. Depressing it is. I think Krabi is maybe the best visitor's choice, but it's a small town and easy to tire of.

I did also visit Ko Pan Ngan which I quite liked - stayed about 5 days.

much more relaxed there and nicer beaches (from what I saw anyway).

Koh Leepe and the other islands around it are quite good, but no b/girls, nightlife, etc. Only very nice beaches, and peace. A bit far with the speedboat from Satun...3 to 4 hours

Don't think I'll visit Samui again.

There was one day in December 2004 when you could.

I stayed a couple of night in Lamai too. Hated it too! I'll never go back to Samui. I hear Chaweeng is the place to go. I didn't have the patience. Plus I didn't like the feeling of being trapped on an island.

Phuket doesn't feel like an island.

And yes there is some surfing. There are some decent swells on the south end of Naiharn beach, I've seen people surfing there. There probably are other spots too. April, May June, July are probably better months for surfing here. It's also the best time to enjoy the nightlife after the overpaying tourists have left.
