Prolly late but what the hell.

Just bought a Sony cyber Shot 120. has all that is required PLUS an eye viewfinder, a must if your shooting outdoors in my opinion.

only 7.2 Mpixels but you really don't need more unless your blowing up prints beyond standard A4.

Very easy to see menu, it pops up on screen.

Only had it two weeks but has performed all that was needed.

    About 5,000 baht

(this has a viewfinder as well as LCD screen, a plus for me)

One other that I run across the Pentax Optio H90 at £155

No one has mentioned Pentax but they used to be a good camera, or so I believe.

Any pros and cons for the ones I have mentioned
Despite my bias towards Canon, I'd probably go with one of the Panasonics. Without actually reading any reviews, they'll probably have a better, more zoomable lens and Panasonic have really got their shit together. When I bought my camera about 4 years ago, no one with more than 1 brain cell would touch them, but credit where it's due.

Now only between the Canon Powershot and the Panasonic, hoping to get to a camera shop today and have a closer look. Hard to evaluate from a picture.

Went with the Panasonic Luimix ZX1.

Picture below taken on the Intelligent Auto setting, and seems good for a close up.

Now to try and understand the rest of the various settings.

very true. It's a simple way people can identify that their camera is now obslete and they need a new one. It's the same with how computers are sold based on the latest processor when 90% of users don't actually need a quad core processor because they only surf the net and edit the odd photo
