Some really great photos this month; great idea to allow up to 5 and then pick one. We wouldn't have had quite such a treat otherwise.

I have a few to post once I get my laptop datalink sorted and a couple to take later this month.

wow, that's offensive to Buddhists and completely devoid of any artistic merit whatsoever.

Good stuff. Looking forward to them.

Admin bud. Stick the thread with some of the pics up on the front page, if there still is a front a page.

Or in the email newsletter thingy, if there still is one.

Or on the wall of the Penis Enlarging clinic.

Wouldn't fancy it in me living room, but is is quite impressive and makes for good photography.

He must have some great shots, he's been stuck in the Sand Pit for nigh on a decade now. Mosques, with their shapes, angles and shadows, combined with the typical colors and materials make for brilliant photography.

That Melbourne statue is hideous. What's really artistic about randomly placing a few bollock naked statues on top of Buddha statues?
Looks like someone did it as a drunken prank.

I did wonder about the profanity angle of religious fusion-art myself but it is really quite arresting when you first see it. The scale is enormous and the greco-roman figures look like they are from a dream that the Buddha is having.

I stood gazing at it for about 15 minutes (although I did have a slight hangover which may have explained my easily arrested perambulations).

Thanks Dilli. I actually did not even see where the information plate was so that is the first time I have known any facts about the piece, including its name.

Honestly, it looks like a mess. Whoever dreamed up that knew f*ck all about Buddhism. The artist might have thought it was arty and hippyish. Well that was a waste of a grant.

I don't actually think this work really is disrespectful towards Buddhism. But even if it was a tad cheeky, it seems like a bit of a double standard that anyone is allowed to make any kind of fun of Christianity in the name of Art (Piss Christ?) but somehow Buddhism gets a pass (I won't even mention the the other religion, whose icons dare not speak their name..!) and demands to be revered, even by agnostics.

I'd agree it would be a double standard if it were, say, buddhists or muslims fashioning the piss christ etc. But in 99% of cases it isn't, so...it isn't.

That thing is just crap on any level though, even putting the ignorance aside.

Well if you are saying that the offence of the talentless rubbish that was Piss Christ was ameliorated because it was done by a white bloke (and of course JC was white!) then it is worth noting that the artist who created the above greco-roman Buddha was an Asian.
