It's my wife's hometown, though, so there was a bias for moving here. I only wish there was a decent beach nearby. That's why we're looking at living on Bantayan part time next year

I completely agree, almost. The problem is that I am still trying to be satisfied with the little that I have. There are many worse off than I, so I should not complain. Happiness though, is overrated. There is a rational process that can lead to contentment with what one has, I believe. Happiness looks like a different question.

Well said, Shu. Some people are never happy, and they have no reason to be unhappy. I've always made do with what I had and sometimes it was very little. You have to work hard for the things you want, as not everyone is given everything on a silver platter. If you are single, it is extra hard as you can't share expenses with someone else.

When you could have all those exciting years, I am not sure they have seals in Manchester's canals but he'll take you clubbing, knitting, bobble hats, football scarves, making dinner for your man and romantic evenings around the boat engine while he goes cruising down canal street. Just helping him out in the kitchen would be great if you could pull it orf?

My friend from the Philippines msg'd me yesterday and asked me to send him pictures that he used to mail me of him in school and with the group of sponsored children. I took pics of them and sent them to him for the upcoming reunion. He is making a scrap book for the founder of the program.

I think you'd love the Philippines, the people are so friendly, warm and speak pretty good English.

^Yeah, for sure, not saying otherwise. All the points raised on the thread are good ones. The weather can be hit or miss depending on where you live as mentioned on here.

I think the nomadic lifestyle is ingrained in my blood I still want to cross the Pyrennee mountains GR10 mountain route on horseback (I used to own a little stone cottage in those mountains).

Many people tell me to retire, stop traveling, stop working, settle down in 1 place and grow vegetables. I can't see it happening!! I know that at some stage age will force me to adopt a more normal lifestyle, and common sense tells me that this should be in the PI... well at least as a home base

^you can still grow vegetables from the balcony or porch of your apartment. I suggest bokchoy - they're relatively easy to grow.

There are some mountains in Panay island (where Roxas & Iloilo cities are located) that you could hike if you're into that sort of thing. Get a guide if you'll do a major trek. Good luck in your travel & resettlement plans...
