A Short Trip to Cebu - 13A Visa

We flew from Bacolod to Cebu today...definitely the shortest flight by jet aircraft I've ever made, only 25 minutes.

After a bit of a snafu with the shuttle van, we arrived at our hotel.

Why we ended up with a twin, who the fook knows, but we were too hungry and tired to ask for another room. We often sleep on the single in my office, so it shouldn't be a problem. Then it was off to the mall next door to get some fast food, we were starving.

It's an interesting bathroom. There's a valve that switches the water between the shower and the sink. The shower is NOT the hose but is in the ceiling in the middle of the tub. I'll take more pictures if anyone is genuinely interested in the plumbing. We walked over to the mall next door and found the visa service people and immigration. Right by immigration is a German place where they had my favorite beer.

A fine ending to the day. There's a Greek taverna place in the mall and the German place has cabbage rolls, I can't wait to try both.

Tomorrow, the hotel breakfast then off to immigration for them to take my "biometrics" then it's off to the casino for a little blackjack.

I do like the amenities of Cebu!!!!!!!!! However, the traffic rivals Bangkok.

After the usual shit hotel "breakfast" I went to immigration this morning to get fingerprinted, photographer and such. Stood in a queue for about 5 minutes, then another 5 minutes for the biometrics and I'm done. I'll get my probationary visa in about 2-3 months, then apply for the permanent visa.

The wife wasn't to enthusiastic to watch me play blackjack, so we went to the mall. It's pretty friggin big, probably bigger than anything I've been to in Bangkok. After walking around rubbernecking, it was time for a break.

However, the traffic is definitely Bangkokesque. It's a bitch to go anywhere, at least where I'm located at.

I wouldn't have spent much anyways and the wife enjoyed looking around. We checked out the "hypermarket" in the place and were going ooh and ahh at the avaliablity of stuff. Oddly enough, in Bacolod, there's no limes and we found some here. We're going to save the seeds to plant a tree.

It is...Thailand is a fookedup clusterfook of visa shit compared to here. It's simply amazing the difference. After I get the permanent visa, I'll never have to apply for a visa again, ever. None of the Non-O renewal every year shite if I married a Thai.

Neither can I. After living in a small town for a couple of years I'm having spasm inducing flashbacks of being stuck in a taxi.

@topper - nice pics. Glad you're enjoying Cebu (I've never been). It's nice to be in a big city once in a while for shopping (but I don't like the pollution, traffic & population density).

Re: the "shit hotel breakfast" - you get what you pay for. If you're in a 4 or 5* hotel, then you'll get a buffet breakfast. If not, then you'll get the standard Filipino "silog" breakfast - rice, egg + meat/ fish. They didn't have a Spamsilog?

'Get what you pay for' doesn't quite cut it, Katie.

In Thailand you can get a good breakfast for about 3 bucks. I'd be pleasantly surprised to get a good breakfast in even a four star on Cebu.

I spent about three weeks in April a good few years back there.

I liked the place. A good balance between city and beach, and not overrun with big noses.

There was a relaxed atmosphere that I very much appreciated.

The food sucked - it's the Phils. 'Silog' sounds about right.

It's a midrange place I suppose. I think the problem is that nobody is staying here. We only saw 3-4 couples at breakfast. There was no silog sort of stuff.
