^lol. I'm imagining Mr. Bean trying slyly to one-up abother person at the grocery checkout.

    On with the pics...

Went to Burnham Park to checkout the flower exhibits. I saw them being assembled the evening before.

I think the motif for this was butterflies. This won 3rd place.

Pre-covid, Baguio held the Panagbenga Flower Festival during late February. For 3 years now, the festival hasn't been held. In Feb 2020, covid cases were already spreading in China and S. Korea, so the nat'l govt didn't allow festivals. It also wasn't allowed this year due to the omicron surge in late January (here). With the number of tourists that I've seen, I'm glad that the tourism sector is slowly recovering in Baguio.

Those floral arrangements were situated in the Rose Garden portion of Burnham Park.

After lunch, I stayed at the park to enjoy the cool breeze. Some locals stopped by for a chat. Some ladies offered (outdoor) massages too.

In the late afternoon, I visited the ili-likha artist village. ("likha" means to create). This artist village is the brainchild of film director & artist Eric de Guia, who was awarded National Artist in 2018. I learned about this artist village from one of those list of sites to see.

More fruit wines. I didn't buy, since I didn't want to carry a lot. But that gives me another reason to return to Baguio.

I bought veg from this stall. I saw that they had the pointed lemons ("California" lemons - I don't know how to call them - they're yellow & have tapered ends). Didn't take a pic. I think in PH, those lemons only grow in Baguio & surrounds (highlands).

First time that I've seen this large eggplant/ aubergine here in PH. I've only seen them in Europe & the US. Most of the eggplants here are long & thin (purple) or the oval short (green) ones.

I don't know if you have this in Thailand (haven't seen it, but it probably wasn't in season when I visited). We call it "siniguelas" but other names are ceriguela, ciruela, mombin or hog plum (Spondias purpurea), according to Google.

The longgan fruits are imported (usually from China).

But I didn't eat any of those dishes, since I can buy those in the lowlands (or cook them). I wanted something regional. This dish also reminds me of my dad, since I first ate it on a trip to Baguio with him & my sister when I was ~10 years old. (RIP, dad).

I got this dish - pinapaitan or papaitan. (Pait = bitter). The soup is a bit bitter and it's seasoned with salt, onion, garlic, ginger, black pepper. It's a dish common in this region (the north).

Dish came with 2 cups of rice

After dinner, it was off to the bus station for the night trip. Only a few passengers were at the station (effect of covid & inflation, maybe).

Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by this bus company. I just like their service when heading up north. One can also buy their tickets online (which is not available for other bus companies).

Back to the station in Cubao, Quezon City (in Metro Manila). Took around 4 hours. Bus was only ~1/3 full. Company must be operating at a loss.

This concludes my trip report. I'm back in the lowlands where daytime temps are ~35 degrees C. The Weather Bureau has declared that the rainy season has officially started. It has rained every afternoon since I got back, so the evenings are blessedly cooler. Cheers!
