    Topper on Bantayan Island

On Thursday, my wife and I are heading to Bantayan Island. Here's a few google earth pictures. We'll be staying in the southeast corner of the island where it seems the white sand beaches are.....

We'll be there for four days and I've already packed a small suitcase with clothes. Three pairs of shorts, both swimming and other, one pair of long pants, four shirts and four pairs of underwear and my little case is full.

It seems I've gotten old, I don't seem to remember packing like this for the beach, but I don't know what to cull.

That must be a small case.

Unless you're prone to accidents, packing 4 pairs of underwear for just a 4 day trip seems excessive? Don't forget that you'll also be wearing a pair for the journey down.

^^^it's either a small suitcase or topper's clothes are on the larger size

What are your shirts? Cotton or dry-fit? You'll be wearing 1 shirt on your travel day. You can just bring 2 shirts & 2 shorts. If they're both dry fit, you can wash them at night, let them drip in the bathroom and they'll be dry in the morning. Swim. Shorts are usually dry fit.

That's how I survive doing 10 to 14 travel days (international) with only 1 backpack (7 kg) & 1 purse/ shoulder bag. I only bring 3 or 4 outfits (plus maybe a cotton dress) and hand wash my clothes at night. Also, my clothes are smaller.

    Cheers, travel safely!

if he wore a burqa he could just go brezzy for the whole trip, you could use the ladies too then as they tend to be cleaner.

Everyone loves a photothread, not so much a Google Earth thread - but, I'm confident Topper will improve the thread; and, I'm looking forward to that.

Topper should get packing tips from you, Betty. You're the king of travelling light.

I'm sure Topper will grace us with pics of his holiday, including the ferry ride!

Well, I had to start somewhere to build anticipation. The travel pictures will start Thursday.

Yes, it is a cute little bag, it's normally what I carry onboard flights with my laptop in it. It's probably 20" by 18 inches.

Thanks, I figured not many people have an intimate knowledge of Philippine geography outside of the Manila metro area.

    Enjoy your trip Topper.
We went to Bantayan in 2019 and really enjoyed it.
We went with a couple of Ms Tiz's friends for college and one their families.
Here's a video I made of our trip.

Very nice Tiz!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for that!!!!!!

We'll be coming from the other direction, from Negros rather than Cebu. Our ferry ports in Bantayan Town, then we'll cross the island to Sta Fe to where we're staying.

Excellent video. Much better than loud coloured motorbikes. Topper will struggle to beat that! Nice soundtrack too.

@joe - nice pics. Were they from your Malta vacay?

@tiz - that was a nice vid indeed. Saw that some years ago when you posted it.

@topper - I looked at your packing list again. Why will you bring pants/ trousers for a beach holiday? If you really want to have pants, then wear them during your travel day. I think you'll only need to wear pants if you go out for dinner at a fancy resto. Some of these beach restos/ eateries are very laid back & you'll be OK wearing casual clothes or shorts. Or you could buy (in future) one of those cargo pants that zip up at the knees (convertible pants/ shorts). I have 3 pairs of those which I use for hiking. One was from Sandugo (a local brand which specialises in hiking/ active gear). I think they have large sizes & they have a website. I don't know if there's a Decathlon store in Cebu city? Decathlon also sells cargo pants. Lots of other sports gear too. They have big (gringo) sizes.

    Cheers & safe travels!

^ The pants I'm wearing are for the ferry trips/taxi rides. I also want to have pants in case my legs get burned, though we've doubled down on the sunscreen.

The plan is to post a ton of pictures of the trip with only passing references to oilers and motorcycles.

^cool. Maybe you'll like the convertible cargo pants for future trips? A lot of my guy friends find them useful. Decathlon has a branch in Cebu city (I've checked, lol). I'm like a kid at a candy store when I'm at Decathlon.

It's processed patty, not made inhouse. Served with frozen chips.

^you could pass by Cebu city on the way back, before returning to Bacolod. (only if you wanted to)

Edit: or you can order from Decathlon online. In the website, they ask which branch is nearest to you - bcos your product will ship from that branch. Only thing is, you won't be able to try the product/ sizing unlike if you were at a physical store. Maybe check their return policy - if you can exchange for a diff size.

I've used similar cargo pants for hiking & travelling (one from Sandugo, 2 from Lazada/ shipped from China). I like them 'coz they're lightweight, made with some polyester blend and dries fast. If you wash them in the afternoon/ night, they'll be dry by morning.
