Hi all, this will be a short pic thread, since I didn't take too many pics during this trip.
Last February, there was a 3-day weekend in PI, so some friends and I took the opportunity to travel a bit. Our destination was Anawangin Cove in the town of San Antonio, province of Zambales (Eastern coast, Luzon Island). San Antonio is a small town a few km farther north of Olongapo City and Subic Bay. To those not in the know, Subic was once home to an American base (Subic Naval Base). There are also lots of beach resorts along the coast of Subic, but that wasn't what my group wanted. We wanted somewhere less mainstream/ commercial and more primitive. As such, we chose Anawangin Cove.
This was a DIY trip and we used public transport all throughout. To get to Anawangin Cove, we boarded a Victory Liner bus (with A/C) bound for Santa Cruz, Zambales and asked to be dropped off at the town of San Antonio. The bus ride took ~5H, with a 20(?) min stop at Victory Liner station in Olongapo City - to drop off many passengers and for toilet breaks and/or leg stretching. Re: the bus journey, most of it was smooth, except when entering or leaving Olongapo.
For most of the directions on how to get to the Cove, I used the blog below. I also contacted the boat operator mentioned in the blog. The boat took us from Barangay (village) of Pundakit/ Pundaquit to the Cove.
The bus dropped at off at the San Antonio municipal Hall. We then had lunch at the nearby public market, then bought supplies (food, water & drinks) for our stay at the Cove. This was upon the advise of the tour operator - he said it's better to buy/bring our own food. He said there would be small restos/shacks selling food in the Cove, but they would cost more. Then we hired a tricycle to bring us to bring us to the village, where we met up with the boatmen (there were 2) who took us to the Cove. The boat ride was ~30 min. For this trip, it's best to bring a backpack rather than a wheelie case, and also waterproof your things. We and our backpacks (exterior) got a little wet from the boat ride.
