    Driving license for the Philippines

From the info I found on the net my UK driving license is sufficient for hiring and driving in the Phils for a 3 week vacation... no need for an international driving permit.

Can anyone confirm that, or otherwise. Don't want to turn up without the right documents and I can get the international permit here over the next few weeks if need be.

    Cheers
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

You can't confirm anything like that in the Fil's, anymore than you can in Thailand.
Depends upon the nature of the bent cop you might encounter, that's all.

Neo, you don't need an an international drivers permit, it's really just a translation document into the language of the country you are driving in.
Philippines are ASEAN members and English is the ASEAN drivers license language, be it Thai, Lao or anyone else, so good to go.

But if, like me, you encounter a bent cop- chuck him his paltry pesos/ bht & move on. Negotiation is permissible, and much preferable to spending hours in a third world police station. Life's too short.
