Uber hire banned in th P.I.?

Just heard from a friend that lives & works in Manila that the Uber "taxi" substitute has been banned in the 'pines.

Meaning that all are pushed back to the corrupt taxi mafia & the consequent rip offs that ensue with them.

    Just for a month.

And in 21 years I've never been ripped off by a meter taxi here - unlike LOS where it's an everyday thing. Years ago....many years ago.......taxis were a pain here, but then they all went metered. In past years they're generally pretty new and all have meters.

Speaking of Manila. Don't know what Cebu is like. Like Angeles, Cebu has a lot of foreign scum, so I imagine there are more ripoffs and problems.

I don't often ride taxis in Manila, since I don't live there. But I've only been overcharged once, and I really didn't consider it a rip-off since I agreed to the contract price before I rode the taxi. It was a taxi to the airport and I was in a hurry, so I agreed to the price (and there was heavy traffic).

I've ridden taxis in Baguio city (up north) and Cagayan de Oro city (in Mindanao) and I wasn't ripped off in those places either, all metered taxis. Haven't been to Angeles (just passed by it) or Cebu, so can't say abt those places.

Re: Uber or Grab, they provide alternative services, just like Airbnb. Let's see what happens in the next few months ...

Grab worked like a dream when I was there earlier this month. Cheap, quick, reliable, new and clean cars.

Yet, isn't that what Uber is essentially?
Extension of a mega-corporation underwritten corrupt transportation mafia.

There attempts at taking over transport/courier business are failing greatly.

Their!!! Tell that to cities where the taxi fleets are now long gone. SF, LA, Boston, NYC, Chicago among others where uber is thriving. Faster, cheaper and more practical than a taxi.

Do some research as to how Uber came into existence and the mega-corporate establishment's subsidies and maintenance.

Uber raised more venture capital than any new start up ever has. Entrepreneurs super rich ones give that money. For one reason to make a lot more fast. It already has spin offs like Lyft and Grab.

You research how much Uber and Lyft have helped college kids get transport in areas where buses dont run. Shared rides, discounts and more.

Not sure if Uber is in Pattaya but Grab Taxi/Car most certainly is and I use them often. The taxi drivers who refuse to use their meters and come up with ridiculous quotes - depending on how drunk or gullible the prospective passenger may look - can all go fuck themselves. They sit there idle waiting for some newbie to pay them 500 Baht to go 5klms, while anyone with a smartphone and the app installed can get a Grab vehicle for about 140 Baht for the same journey.

I couldn't care less which evil capitalist empire is behind these new transport companies, but they're successful and deserve to be.
