I've stayed in the Royal Cliff as a guest as well as had hundreds of clients stay there and all have commented that they would never swim in that slurry after walking down onto the small strip of beach that is there.

The majority of the visitors to that hotel are middle to old age tourists, generally married couples and only recently has there been an influx of Russian families.

In fact I have only ever seen Russians go on that beach for suntanning purposes only with very few of them swimming in the filth.

Royal Cliff is a hotel to which I used to take my lovely wife to eight years ago. We stay at the fine premises and not leave until it was time to return to our place of resident in Bkk.

we did not live in Pattaya, visit any of Pattaya, visit any of it notorious bars and gogos. Did not go to beach, did not do anything in Pattaya that would qualify as regular Patts visiter or resident such as yourself.

Some years later, I went once around Pattaya (in daytime) and concluded the place is filled with aging woremongers and scum. Say it ain't so?!?

I still to visit Pattaya when it's dark.!. I am sure there is even more scum lurking in the dark of the night.

So there you have it.
Since we are now lowering ourselves to a Pattaya regular and resort to name calling.

How much you know Patt's would then depend on what you do there- if it's a two night resort package with maybe a stroll along WS to watch the freak show, well clearly you are no authority on matters Pattaya. But if you get out and about a bit, and know a few locals, you probably know more.

Basically, I don't think you know Pattaya much- which, it would seem, is no problem for you because you don't like the place, or what you've seen of it. Fair 'nuff. Quite a lot has changed in eight years you know-
Suvannabhumi
the Tollway
the Russian invasion
large population growth (you would hardly recognise the 'darkside' now, assuming you've been there). If you count the hinterland, not technically part of Pattaya city, I would say it has easily doubled.
associated facilities- shopping centres, supermarkets etc
consequent infrastructural demands, and investment

The infrastructure of Pattaya is struggling to stay up with it's growth, nothing surprising in an Asian city, and certainly no surprise to a Bangkok resident. Then again, the water quality in Pattaya Bay is said to have improved in spite of this- mainly because the larger resorts are no longer allowed to pump their shit directly into the sea. But I'd still be reluctant to swim there, personally.
