Ok, you are part of the conspiracy crowd. You believe that the water treatment plant is a fake and you also cant grasp the fact that it is in the hotels interest to keep the beach as clean as possible.

You guys are the sex tourists that can only remember 15-20 years ago when the beach really was dirty. Pattaya costs too much for the typical sex tourist douche, at least that is what i have heard.

not a rumor, well established fact. The city has grown exponentially since 2004, nobody expected that kind of growth, and certainly not the Thais

I really dont know if the large hotels dump into the sea or not but its not just a few chip packets thats for sure. Where you catch the boat to Koh samet a hour down the road I have seen a group of logs floating around.
In case you pulled a butterfly and didn't read my original post...

-In late 2000, Pattaya became the first and only resort in Asia to have a fully integrated water treatment system.

-plant and its subsequent operations can be considered one of the most significant
developments to take place in the city’s history.

    - has regulation and enforcement of environmental standards.

    - the Royal Cliff Beach Resort was the first individual business in
Pattaya to build its very own wastewater treatment facility to combat harmful
    effects of water pollution.

    - first in Thailand to achieve the ISO 14001 environmental certification

    Now you know.
Only the very best treatment for the water. Tax Money working hard.

Probably not. The Thai police are the ones that "clean up" and they won't share the cash flow with farangs.

Socal, I have no idea whether your a troll but nobody is denying that Pattaya has waste water treatment plants but these facilities in no way can handle the amount of waste that has to be processed.

A great example of Thailand in general. Not enough infrastructure to handle the amount of traffic.

I live quite close to the biggest waste water plant in Pattaya and it has not been upgraded in the last 10 years yet the number of people living in the area has grown 100 fold.

Without going into to much detail I have had senior council officials stand in front of me and admit they have allowed whole communities to pipe their sewerage pipes directly into the storm water systems and those pipes go nowhere near the waste water treatment plants.

This water ends up flowing into Pattaya Bay, everyone knows it including the TAT and the hotel association.

I for one have never tried to insult you but the powers at be must do something about the problem.

Everyone in Pattaya knows there is a problem and that's why not one person I know who lives here will go anywhere near the beaches nor knowingly eat any fish that has been taken from the waters around Pattaya.

For those wishing to visit Pattaya drive about 10 Kilometers south of Pattaya and for a safer swim.

Don't know where you was looking at the H2O but I waded in Jomtien Beach (about midway along the stretch) up to ankle level a week or so ago and I could not see my feet. In fact, Jomtien Beach water appears dirtier than parts of Rayong and that area has to contend with Map Taa Put and the seaport at Sattahip.

Saying the Thais care about Pattaya beach is like saying George W. Bush cares about Arabs.

They know it's there, they pretend they give a toss, but in truth they will never let it get in the way of a nice profit, and they do perfectly OK as it is, because there's people like Socal willing to go swimming in it to (try to) prove to everyone else that it isn't a shit and condom flavoured cesspit.

Fuck me, I won't even paddle in it.

Most beaches test for contaminants on a regular basis, but I have yet to see a single test for Pattaya's water quality. I worked as a water quality engineer in a past life and If it was clean they would easily be able to prove it.
I do know that during a big rain storm once, looking from the 41st floor of the Metro there was some pretty nasty septic sewerage coming out of what I assumed was the offshore outfall.
I wouldn't go in that water for anything.

I have friends that work for East Water and Thames Water Companies and they helped me a lot when I was having my pollution problem.

These companies have actually submitted proper "course of action plans" and to solve the pollution problem but at the end of the day Chon Buri Province does not have the billions of dollars needed to invest let alone being able to rip up half of greater Pattaya to fix the problems.

Exactly the same problems exist in Bangkok and that is why the Chao Phraya is a polluted sewer.
