I was in Bangkok on R&R from Vietnam in late-1968, and there was no action like that at that time. As I recall, Rick Menard opened the first Bangkok club with dancers in (relatively modest) bathing suits in 1969 - the Grand Prix on Patpong Road.

Mosquito bar in Khlong Toey had bands on and dancers before anyone else. I'm not saying those pictures were taken then or there as I don't know, but just correcting your thought that there was no where like it at the time.

Remember visiying both these bars when I had a German friend in the merchant navy who used to stay at the Seamans mission. They were both pretty dire and mostly only frequented by seaman who were only making a short stop at the port of Bangkok.

I found a few pics of Thailand that were taken during the Vietnam War. The bar girls shown are from Korat and others of GIs around the country. If I were to have served in Vietnam, it would have been great to be stationed in Thailand.
