business as usual...
99% of Brit's don't even know what day St George's day is!
I'd expect 81.5% of brits to know about the Patron Saint of england, and when his day is uncelebrated.
I hosted a pub quiz in aid of the local orphans last year, and on the question 'When is St. George's Day?' not one team answered 'Today'. On the bloody day! Shame on them.
how do they celebrate?
we wear mock chain mail suits ,
get bladered on strong beer ,and go paki bashing .so apart from the suit its just like any other day.
now a free history lesson -
It's about the crusades and the dragon St George is killing is Islam,
not many people know that ,,
''St George's Day is celebrated by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities Most countries which observe St George's Day celebrate it on 23 April, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in 303 AD.
Spain
Catalonia
Valencia
Portugal
Georgia
Serbia
Bulgair
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Macedonia
Russia
Italy
Slovenia
Lebanon
I have often gone to a St Georges day dinner of far too much ale followed by roast beef and so much bullshit, i dont know why i go back the next year, its almost like a conditioned response !
a few years ago, we used to go on a bar crawl. So i guess nothing happens now then
Should be a National holiday,
Although, Paddy's Day is far bigger in England
I know when St George's day is. I sit in the comfort of my drinking establishment. Get drunk, and celebrate how most of the world speaks, (or tries), to speak English. And I thank goodness, that I am in the very best country on the planet. ENGLAND.!!!!!!!! and bollocks to everybody else.

England is too divided for St Georges day to become a big event. In Scotland we see ourselves as one nation. People from Inverness in the north or Hawick in the south see themselves as Scots. They sing the same songs, have the same national heroes the same mind set and cultural identity. The Irish and Welsh are the same. England is just too divided to have one central identity. What have Geordies and folk from Cornwall got in common ? Do Cockneys have the same mind set at Scousers ? From my experiences of working in England i find people are more loyal to their city or county than they are too the country as a whole.
yes and Galloway is loyal to money and London, better than that tosser sean connery, or castro but please,,,,Originally Posted by Scottish Gary

My mother was half-English
And I’m half-English too
I’m a great big bundle of culture
Tied up in the red, white and blue
I’m a fine example of your Essex Man
And I'm well familiar with the Hindustan
‘Cos my neighbours are half-English
And I’m half-English too
My breakfast was half-English
And so am I you know
I had a plate of Marmite soldiers
Washed down with a cappuccino
And I have a veggie curry about once a week
The next day I fry it up as ‘Bubble ‘N’ Squeak’
‘Cos my appetite’s half-English
And I’m half-English too
Dance with me
To this very English melody
From Morris dancing to Morrissey
All that stuff came from across the sea
Britannia she’s half-English
She speaks Latin at home
St. George was born in the Lebanon
How he got here I don’t know
And those three lions on your shirt
They never sprang from England’s dirt
Them lions are half-English
And I’m half-English too
Wiki:
It is likely that Saint George was born to a Christian noble family in Lod, Syria Palaestina during the late third century between about 275 AD and 285 AD
Saint George is also included in early Muslim texts as a saintly figure.

Without boring you to death with a history lesson there has not been conflict between Highlanders and Lowlanders for 400 years. The only difference nowadays is that most Highlanders still hate the English while in the Lowlands we couldn't care less.
Millwall and West Ham hate each other but at the end of the day they are still Londoners. Celtic/Rangers are a Glaswegian version. They use the Irish political stuff as a big stick to hit each other with but in reality they are like two cheeks of the same arse. Identical but opposite.
As for my avatar George Galloway was a Westminster MP with a London constituency and all his media work is in the big smoke so it makes sense to live in London does it not ?.
Why do you want a Scot who lives in Scotland ? There is 6 million to choose from but famous ones tend to move away down to Planet London for the work.
Anyway how can a man who advertises the British Nazi Party question my avatars?
Ps... Im delighted to read on here that St George is included in early Islamic texes as a saintly figure. Maybe there is not that much difference between you after all and who knows, maybe you might even start embracing multi culturalism.

Has this song got anything to do with this history?Originally Posted by Scottish Gary
What a brilliant song that is. Its played at the end of every Scottish wedding with much drunken revelry. Its about a Highland Jacobite and his wife who were captured after the 1745 rebellion by English troops. They were told that the husband would be executed but the wife could live. The one who was killed is taking the low road which is an old expression for death. The high road is trodden by the one who will live. The dead husband is singing to his wife. They are lamenting the fact that they will never meet again at Loch Lomond a picturesque beauty spot and loch in the Trossachs mountain range There is about half a dozen interpretations of the song but that is the one i like best. The song was written around 1840 and some of the dialect is hard to understand. The band Runrig do a speeded up version with more modern lyrics. That's the one you will most likely here nowadays.

Hi,
There is a St Georges Day party at the Stags Head Soi LK Metro
2pm we are feeding 50 orphans from the Father Ray Foundation and donating 50 England football shirts for the kids. All those wishing to either help with the serving of food or just enjoy the party are welcome.
For those wanting to have a beer or two this will start at 3.30 the orphans leave the bar at 4pm.
We are trying to arrange many events throughout the day and night some still to be confirmed although patriotic music and food will be available all day and night with a free buffet at 5pm
All proceedes raised on the day are for the orphanage
All welcome and we would be greatfull for all the support

When England was smug and secure, no big deal was made of St Geo's day. We were Gods gift to the world- why did we need to advertise the fact? The recent upsurge in flag waving and celebrating a 'national day' seems to me associated with increasing insecurity. We used to quietly scoff at Americans for their propensity to wear their flag on their chest. Where will you see most English and British flags on display? At a National Front rally. I prefer it the way it was before.
