    Pattaya to Esarn by bus:

Decided to take the bus instead of NokAir(other discussion)

The yellow bus is pure shit. I'd not take it unless you have a need/reason to go to Aranyapatet(Poi Pet border with Cambodia)

I don't sleep on buses, so took the 8am bus to Mukdahan. Stop, stops, hot as the AC not sufficient. 14 full hours later in Mukdahan. There are a few cheap hotels at the bus station.

On the trip back, I took a VIP with one seat one side, two the other, to Mo Chit. Left at 830am. Comfortable to say the least, 10 hours later at Mo Chit. Transfered to a Pattaya bus within about 45min of arrival, back in the condo call it 12 1/2 hours later.

Both long trips, but the moral of the story is worth the extra dosh to go via Mo Chit. I'll edit in some links in Thai which may provide the schedule Mo Chit to the great North East of Thailand where nonsense such as "farang bars", "lady drinks" and "barfiners" are unheard of...you go to a traditional brothel for "sex" and mind your manners while mixing with the general public. No farangs in Tesco/Lotus without a shirt on etc..

    http://www.transport.co.th/

    http://www.adtechs.co.th/

This is what the bus looked like. I noticed they also had one from Mo Chit to Nakan Pranom(sp, the city basically the furthest northeast)

    Cheers. Nok the Kook

I wouldnt get on that bus if you paid me, I also will not let any family on thoses buses. I have lost count for how many I have seen smashed up and burnt out. There is a new bus all busted up sitting by the police box on the Khon kaen to udon highway.

You two need to imerse yourselves into the culture and get with the program. Leave your "western" mindset back there where it belongs. Life is dangerous here and day to day. Being afraid of a frigging "bus" ride is tell tale of other inhibitions which aren't well suited here. There is much more than cheap unprotected sex in Thailand. There is a wonderful culture of caring people and it is in fact a great Kingdom. Pattaya wrecks it for many, but not me. Cheers. Nok

I have lived in Isaan for along time and seen most of Thailand over the last 10 years and travelled it on motorcycles. If you wish to burn to death in a bus go right ahead.

It is more dangerous because there is more traffic. It is again very sad to read you people disparaging the Thai culture and people less fortunate. Most Thai people travel by "bus" and it seems, motorcycles. Both of these may be dangerous but they have to get from here to there some how. Not everyone can afford a car or plane ticket. It is pure economics in their case (not mine of course, I could have flown, just didn't make sense since going to a village). You post as if everyone has these choices when they do not.

I didn't go for the "massage", it was a nice surprise of sorts. Young(19 - 22) Laos ladies and beautiful. Yeah, I over paid but what the heck, you only live once.

There we are again...opening the gambit for more dooms dayers...unprotected sex and bus rides...what an idiot NokTang is and remains...He's going to get HIV and then burn up in a bus...BTW, I did notice UBC along the way in the various cities. So you guys can sit in your homes and watch TV to your hearts content.

Hi. Eight years full time, 12 months each year, visited as a "tourist" I suppose for the six or seven years, perhaps three months a year, prior to the last eight.

    Cheers. Nok

Ahh, the know-it-all's favorite card, the "I know/experience Thailand better than you" gambit. Always fails to amuse.

Even in Thailand its safer to ride on a Bus then on a Motorbike. But to each there own. Noktang, would be nice if you would take some photos next time you go on a nice Bus.

The bus drivers do ok, considering what they have to cope with every day.

The yellow bus - Mukdahan-Pattaya-Rayong is a reasonable ride, for $20.

I've done Udon-Bangkok-Udon a few times on the bus. Even using the best service (Air Udon), I'd not use it again. They are simply too unsafe and driven too fast.

Rigger, you are a complete idiot.
That was a very symbolic and meaningful cultural experience.
Please don't dare criticize it again with your blasphemy

The bus is a punishment...if I wished to immerse myself into the culture, I'd prefer to get with the program by chilling out with the buffalos and rolling around in shit for the day..
