    English Conversation in Pattaya

Every so often I ask for ideas, contacts, classes or informal get-togethers for Thais and English speakers to just engage in English conversation. My Thai girl friend, even tho in AUA classes(9th level) has only me and her Thai girl friends to talk with. She needs other English speakers(not me) who will not intimidate her and give her the opportunity to practice and improve both her listening and speaking ability.
We live in Jomtien, but we have a motorbike so we can go anywhere in the Pattaya area.
    Thoughts or suggestions?

As long as you're feeling secure and confident, why not introduce her to Facebook etc...then she could chat or video chat on MSN/Camfrog etc etc.....but you would need to trust her a lot....it could mean the end....

Cartoons are a great way to learn a language. Get some that are in English and Thai, watch them together in both languages then talk about them. I do this sometimes at the school where I teach, the children love it and it is quite fun. Some of the old Loony Tunes have excellent Thai translation. Go through the who-what-when-where-why-and how of each scene.

An ex girlfriend wanted something similar, I advised her turn on the BBC World channel for an hour a day and listen and repeat some phrases and sentences to herself. It was pretty boring for her, but it was ok because it meant i just sat and helped out a little and it was minimum effort for me

Some good suggestions, thanks. I wonder if any of you know of someone who got a student visa to the U.S. and what hoops they had to jump thru...

My gf studied in the US, New York for 2 years. I'll ask her and post when she gets home.

    Newbie to Pattaya

I'll be heading to Thailand in March for the first time. One of the hardest thing I go through when travelling is getting over the language intimidation. Maybe and introduction in the future could lead to some language classes..for the both of us.
