Pattaya Restaurant - The Red Lion

Pattaya has several restaurants called The Red Lion, infact 2 of them are within walking distance of each other, ie the ones on Soi Khao Talo and Soi Khao Noi, so this is the one on Soi Khao Noi on the corner of Soi 13 to stop or start any confusion.

It says on the sign it does English and Thai food but I only had the small breakfast, bit pricey but pretty good.

Nice outside seating where smoking is allowed.



Pool table and big screen tv, they had the BBC on, place is quite nicely done out.



The small breakfast for 140baht, came with tea and a slice of toast, the beans were Malaysian baked beans, sausage was damn good, the bacon was really thickly sliced, and suprisingly also got a tinned tomatoe, I did eat some of it.

Small serving for 140 Bt, Udon has to be cheaper to run a business in, but up here in Geezer country that would be 99 Bt, partic if it has those crap Ayam beans.
Brooks imports Good Ozzie beans at < 40 Bt a can, why use the crap ones ?

Got to agree that it is a bit expensive considering it is also on the wrong side of Sukhumvit Road to charge the big bucks, think it maybe aimed at the gay community as the daily special was either lasagne or quiche, can't remember which, and real men don't eat either of them

The thing that struck me about the Red Lion was that it's quite a nicely done out place, some money spent- but nobody seems to go there!

Brekkie's on the darkside are definitely more expensive than central Pattaya- theres just not the volume or competition about. If the banger was good, then 140 bht ain't too bad. Would've thought two eggs though- they cost nothing.

The bigger breakfast may have contained 2 eggs , 2 sausages and 2 bacon for 199 baht (DD maybe able to confirm)

I think the big breakfast was 180baht, the small breakfast also only comes with one slice of toast but it is proper bread and a nice big slice.

Anyways its a fvcking boring, bland pommy style breakfast, why not something with a bit of favour like a Spanish Tortilla or my fav breakfast?
Chorizo and stir fried spicy potatoes or maybe my 2nd favorite breakfast, Burritos and cayenne fried potatoes.

To keep the foriegners happy in their quest for spicey foods they do have brown sauce it's an English breakfast peter, although I still don't believe we eat fried tomatoes for breakfast in England, especially out of a tin, probably some Northern thing.

I think some forget the value that breakfast represents when compared to what you get for your dollar back home.

In Paris, Sydney or London your lucky to get a coffee and a bread roll for $5.00 USD.

Another good breakfast stop off in Soi Kao Noi is Cafe Uno.

Dead right there LT. I normally get a breakfast at Manchester airport before my flight. 2 toast, coffee, Egg bacon sausage beans and i/2 fried tomato, £8.99 for that. A wacking 450 baht and last time the bacon was crap.

You got to pay fifteen British pounds for the privilege, but you get it. I guess you’re thinking that twenty-five dollars is a hell of a price for a breakfast, but that steak is USDA premium non-hormone treated Nebraskan corn-fed beef. That stuff don’t come cheap. And it don’t come large, neither: go to this joint expecting some kinda twenty-four ounce T-bone and you leave disappointed. Two small pieces of fillet, that’s what you get. But that’s OK, 'cos this is breakfast. And it’s the best goddam breakfast you gonna find in London: steak, bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, and a grilled tomato as big as a man’s fist. That might be extra: this was such a goddam amazing breakfast that I was distracted from taking notes.

Yes but at the airport you will find all the food pre-prepared (buffet style) and sitting on vapour heaters.........fooking yuk!

As a cook you will see that the breakfast DD had was cooked upon order.

Try getting that back in the UK in a half decent place for 15.00 Quid including coffee, orange juice and toast.
